According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of luck a is:
a: a force that brings good fortune or adversity;
b: the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual.
However, does anything – good or bad – really happen by luck? I would argue that there is an order and precision to the functioning of our world. When an occurrence is deemed lucky, it’s in fact usually the result of a sequence of events that occurred before the “lucky” or “magical moment” actually happened.
Take this morning’s workout as an example. Rolling dice to determine the outcome of the workout might look like it is determined by chance. No one likes to do over 40 burpees before 7am on a Wednesday morning and this might be seen as “bad luck” but if you would have not have showed up to the November Project workout in the first place, that magical moment of a “bad ass” workout would have not have happened in the first place.

Most of us are so concerned with end results that we pay little attention to the journey required to get there. The fact that you woke up this morning and showed up makes you that much more incredible. It’s dark, it’s getting cold, winter is about to show its ugly head but you chose to get up.

The crux of life is what happens while we are trying to get from Point A to Point B and November Project tries to be part of it: sweating it out by getting a badass workout, meeting fun and interesting people, and sharing a unique moment in Montréal is all part of the process.
Since we are in the harvest season, consider it as an apple picked for an orchard. As yummy and wonderful a fresh Apple picked from a tree may seem, it has usually the product of planting a seed, making sure it has the sun and water required and taking care of the orchard. To notice only the yummy apple is the equivalent of labeling a person or situation as lucky. You are judging only the end result, without taking into consideration the process that gave rise to it.
Hence, this week’s takeaway from the blog post would be: Always remember the big picture (i.e., process) and “luck” will be on your side Tribe! (i.e. Apple)

This week’s announcements:
NP Atlanta is the 44th tribe! We forgot to mention this this morning but we welcomed the 44th tribe this morning to the November Project familia: ATLANTA. So, let us show them a warm Montréal welcome. Much love from us Atlanta!
Ghost race – Saturday Oct 21st at 9 29am: The plan is to do the 8k run with some NP-style flavour mixed in, then hang out and munch.
Crate escape MTL – Friday Oct 27th at 6 59pm: Join us for an evening that blends fitness and storytelling. In the coming weeks, we will release a theme for the evening, then anyone who feels inspired to do so will have the opportunity to put their name in a hat. The night of the event, we will draw a name from the hat, hand said named person a crate, and follow them on a short (1km or less) run to the spot of their choosing, at which point they will stand on the crate and share their story with the tribe. This is an opportunity to share a story that tells something about yourself, to inspire the group, or to make us laugh/cry/feel however you deem fit. Next, we pick a new name and repeat. After about an hour of storytelling and brief runs, we will have a chance to hang out at a local resto/bar, newly connected.
Soirée «Courir l’hiver» – Maison de la course – Wednesday Oct 25th at 7pm
