Born this way [MTL]

Wisconsin notes:

  • Happy Pride 2017! #fiertemontreal #montrealpride
  • NP Social at Benelux on Sunday at 8pm
  • Hills guys, hills.

This morning was filled with power, love, booty, and rainbow shirts. Speaking of, let’s talk about rainbow shirts.

This morning we tagged with the colours of the rainbow in support of Montréal Pride, as well as in order to show that we are allies. Yet, your cool new shirt is not enough. In fact, don’t even think about wearing it unless you are committed to the following:

  • Speak up against homophobia and transphobia any time you encounter it. In a conversation, in online speak, in educating the people around you.
  • Support people who do this ^ too. By agreeing with them, voting for them, or sharing their writing, you are succeeding in spreading the message.
  • Acknowledge that the world of LGBTQ+ includes other less well-known groups that are oppressed and need the same love, support, and advocacy.
  • Question anything that you may say that might be judgmental, pejorative, or class people with a label that may not feel good. *Note: This is a life lesson, not just a Pride one.

Last, and maybe biggest: Do you have questions? Do you need help? ASK! Educating yourself is the first step to fixing our world and must be done first and foremost. There’s a lot to know and there’s a lot that is constantly changing. Keep learning always and listen with your heart before anything else. For more information and a powerful guest blog, check out this post from NP BAL.

Today, you worked out hard, you wore colours with pride, and you may have even learned a little bit about your responsibility as an ally. Now enjoy the amazing Pride events that this city has to offer and see you Sunday August 20th at 8pm at Benelux (Sherbrook/Jeanne Mance) for a celebratory hangout!

Cheers to another amazing Wednesday and to a future where being an “ally” is the norm and we don’t even need a name for it.

🌈 ❤️
