A Sad Day in Boston, a Legend Remembered, and a Call to Arms.

  Wisconsin Notes:
– Wear hockey gear and just show up to your closest November Project workout.
It is with great sadness and sorrow in my heart that I am writing you all on this Monday evening.
As many of you know, Sunday afternoon, one of our dear members of the November Project family passed away.

Ben O’Meara was a legend in his own right. He was a champion, a good friend, and above all else, a passionate fan. He was an unshakable fan of his lovely wife, Jenn, any hockey team that could skate, good beer, great times, and of course, November Project.

Ben was a longtime member of the Boston tribe, but would never miss an opportunity to recruit for his new love, NPWOO. He may have lived closest to Worcester, but I’m not kidding when I say Ben was a loyal member of the “November Project family.” While Ben may have started coming to NP Boston all those years ago, he somehow made it to more tribes than most of you probably even knew existed. He knew about tribes before BG and Bojan knew they were pledging. Upon hearing the news, many co-leaders from all over the world reached out with an enormous outpouring of support and kind memories of Ben and Jenn and how many of their pledge or fledgling tribes felt the love of that household long before they ever came into the NP family officially.

He loved this shit with his whole heart and welcomed tribe members old and new with his enormous smile and big ol’ bear hug. Ben died doing something he absolutely loved. He lived life to the fullest and didn’t take a single day for granted. I’m sure if he were here today he’d ask the same of you all. So whether or not you knew Ben, you barely new him, he was that crazy dude with the red mo-hawk at summit, or he was the love of your life, know that he was a fan of YOU. A was a supporter of you. And he wanted you to crush today.
This Wednesday we’ll all be rocking hockey gear in remembrance of Ben O’Meara, and support of his loving wife Jennifer O’Meara.

FAQ:
Q: What can I do to help?
A: Just show up wearing hockey gear. We’re talkin’ helmets, pads, jerseys, shirts, sticks, pucks, skates?, banners, towels, foam fingers, hulk fists, face paint, body paint, anything under the sun that you might see at a hockey game. Bring a freakin’ hockey net.
Q: What if I don’t have hockey gear?
A: Go get some.
Q: What if I can’t go get any?
A: Talk to a friend. Borrow some.
Q: No seriously, I can’t get any.
A: Paint your face, get creative. If all else fails, wear crisp, clean (green?) #grassrootsGear. It was his favorite.
Q: I don’t know if I can make any of that happen!
A: Just show up.
Q: What if I have too much hockey gear?
A: Bring it all.

  1. Thanks for writing this post and reminding us all of the beauty that is and always will be Ben O’Meara. That man positively impacted so many lives during his time here on earth and so much so that his impact will continue for many years to come.

Come Wednesday morning, I for one look forward to celebrating Ben and all things hockey.

  2. Ben was one of the best guys I have ever known. I met him only two years ago but we became fast and lasting friends with himself and Jen. I didn’t think it was possible to find two people who loved hockey more than myself and buddy Chris. They even came to visit us in Newfoundland this past February. He was, and still is one of the only Americans I know that drinks like a Canadian. We were heartbroken to hear of his passing. Rest in peace my friend, you will never be forgotten. We will raise many a bottle to your memory, especially when we see a Bruins/Providence jersey.
