Non-Ridiculous Idea Filter

Happy New Year! To quote a popular song about 2017 by Likwid, Sahlid, and Tha Meatierologyst (December 28, 2016, #milwakeupcall, for reference):

(Likwid) For 2017

We got a dance you never seen

Like them and like me

You can do the Milwaukee (Sahlid and Tha Meatierologyst: MILWAUKEE)

It’s 2017, folks, and with a new year comes a new procedure when submitting ideas to your local leaders of NP MKE. From now on, I (Christine) will take on the role of the Idea Filter, and will serve as the middle-man between your ideas and their realization as a part of a workout.

There are all sorts of different filters!

  1. Coffee filter. This prevents your grounds from ending up in your coffee (aka “hot bean water”).

  2. Low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch filters. These clean up a digital signal (for example, an electrocardiogram (EKG)) that has been recorded and is being processed on a computer. Leave it to the enginerds, though, and just focus on keeping your bean grounds out of your hot bean water.

  3. Photograph (Instagram, perhaps) filter. This makes your just-okay photography skills much more impressive. Sometimes if you get it just right, you might make it onto a cool website like dearmke.

  4. DG’s filter. Non-existent. Kind of like when people get old enough, they believe saying anything is acceptable, and sometimes cute? That’s DG right now at the ripe old age of not even 40.

Don’t know what I mean by an Idea Filter? Here’s an example:

Tribesperson: “DG, I’ve got this amazing idea for a workout.”

DG: “Alright, no promises, but shoot.”

T: “Okay, imagine: everyone wears togas. Except they’re not bedsheets, they’re made from local Milwaukee plants sewn together with human hair. And there are snakes. Everywhere. Snakes and lightning. And everyone’s in groups of three, and it’s a fight to the death. Between the snakes, of course. What do you think?”

And then DG gets fed up because it’s not feasible. And he stops listening to your input (we’ll leave Roger out of this because Roger is a patient soul – a nurturing mother or kind uncle of your NP tribe).

I am here to filter those ideas, like the fish you keep in your fish tank, eating all of the gross stuff off of the walls, and leaving a nice clean tank for DG, and for you, to swim in. We need your ideas! We need them to make NP new and *so fresh and so clean* and young and hip! Our hope is to continue to be the coolest tribe the world has seen, and to do that, we welcome any input, positive or negative.

We have created a Non-Ridiculous Idea Submission Form, to be given to me (again, Christine) in person, meaning you need to come to a workout. The procedure is simple:

  1. Brainstorm and create your Non-Ridiculous (but incredibly fun) Idea. Think: is this something I would ask my friends to do with me? Would I enjoy doing this? Will this idea be accompanied by bouts of laughter? Does this idea bring people out of their comfort zone and allow them to grow and improve physically and mentally? Is it feasible for 100 people to do this? If the answer to any of the above is no, return to the beginning of Step 1 and start over. If the answer is yes, proceed to Step 2.
  2. Come up with a list of items that are necessary for making your Non-Ridiculous Idea a reality. Are these items really necessary? Can your Idea use readily available items instead (e.g. branches, snowballs, someone else’s ankles)? If they are necessary, can you acquire at least 100 of them? If the answer to any of the above is no, return to the beginning of Step 2 and think harder. If the answer is yes, proceed to Step 3.
  3. Fill out the Non-Ridiculous Idea Submission Form. Print the form, fill it in, and bring it to me at a workout. Does this idea require a specific location? Can it be done anywhere? Is it a workout idea or an idea for a social gathering?
  4. Don’t be disappointed if your Non-Ridiculous Idea has not become a reality. It may be in the works for a future workout, or it might be too ridiculous to be considered a Non-Ridiculous Idea.

Form is attached below.

In all seriousness, we do love, and rely on, your ideas and input! November Project is a team effort, and without creative juices seeping out of everyone’s brain crevices, we’d be a pretty boring tribe. Keep the juices flowing, bottle them up, bring them to me, and we’ll see what we can cook with them.
