The first November Project Canada workout of 2017 was fantastic! We love that you all chose to show up, gambled with the weather, chest-bump burpeed, and kicked off the new year with a roll of the dice!
Goals, intentions, resolutions…call them whatever you want, the coming of a new year is often marked by reflecting upon what one would like to achieve in the upcoming year. Things you want to accomplish, things you want to refrain from doing, states of mind you want to spend more time in, connections you want to foster…so many choices.
I think everyone determines for themselves how to approach the new year and their plan. For me, setting goals is not about creating a to-do list. I’ve done that before but when I do, it makes me feel like I have a list of chores to do. For me, I like to set one big goal – something that intimidates me, something I am not yet confident that I will achieve, something that requires a plan with many parts. For me, the journey to get to the destination is the biggest part of the accomplishment. Creating the plan, checking off each step, making it to key milestones, adjusting the plan when needed (because we all know that like predicted in January is not exactly how life will play out), and arriving on the goal date knowing that I have done everything to set myself up for success. And at that point, I try to just enjoy the moment.
Last week Nadim shared his speedy 5KM goal and his plan to get there…today, here’s mine:
This year, my big goal is to solo the Grizzly 50km Ultra Marathon in Canmore at Thanksgiving and do so crossing the finish line with my husband who also has this grand goal. I have started my planning and one of my main intentions is to focus on enjoy the journey and have as much fun as possible. I know that some of my training runs won’t be the best but on those days I have an amazing community to draw upon for support and encouragement. I know that some of my training races will be awesome and some not so much but sharing those races with friends and cheering them as they reach their goals makes the experience so much better! I plan to venture out to the mountains to train a few times, this intimidates me and scares me a little but I know it will make me stronger and more prepared. I look forward hearing about your goals & plans and would love to know how I, and we as, leaders & a tribe, can support you in achieving them.
Know anyone else who has some fitness goals who you think would love to be a part of our community? Now is a great time to recruit family, friends, strangers – it’s free & positive, we give out hugs & high 5s, and we’re a really supportive inclusive community that will make you sweat and hold you accountable – can’t ask for much more than that!
