25 minutes and 1 second

Today you gave 25 minutes and 1 second of your time, energy, athleticism and sweat to those 287 steps behind Parliament Hill.  25 minutes and 1 second, seems a little outrageous don’t you think? Giving you an extra second to get that much further? Yet, we don’t see it as outrageous at all. We see it as an extra second of work, of effort and a runner hitting those last couple of steps to make it to the top in time to finish 6 stair climbs.

We broke down those moments that seem to flash by while your aortic valve pumps out that oxygenated rich blood from your left ventricle to your aorta and onto the body.  Not to mention the energy and pure adrenaline that is coursing through your body as you bound down the steps just to climb up them once more.  We have recounted those mere seconds that find us listening to our fellow tribe member cheers, looking for a hand to high five or smelling the scent of fresh tagged shirts at the top of our climb.  We have broken it right down to the exact second when you would be thinking the following:

25.01 Lauren and Liz call it out. Three, two, one GOOOOO!!

24.58 I bet I can get ahead of this group to make my way down fast, maybe take two steps at a time. I’ve seen Andre do it before.

22.20 That was a quick descent

21.30 Stay light on your toes, pump your arms, rest assured up ahead it’s flat.

19.45 MY SONG, my song is playing I can hear it; ain’t no hollarback girl, ohh time been around that track but there aint no time to hollarback girl

17:00 Lauren just let me know that 8 minutes have gone by, 1 full loop done gotta get 3 more (are they making these times up?)

15:00 Made it back up to the top. HOLY SHIT forgot to leave out my winter jacket I NEED IT TAGGED! Today is the last day.

13:40 Okay jacket is out

13:00 Get back into it, high five, smile, high five, hustle, pump arms, drive my legs keep my pace

05:00 Liz just called 5 minutes left, I got to make it back up down and then back up and down again

3:44 Okay stop flashing your headlamp in my eyes. Actually you should probably turn it off it’s light enough now.

03:40 Natalia just passed me, gosh I can’t wait to introduce myself to her after, she reminds me of my mom. Man, my mom should be here.

01:30 At the bottom, made it back to the river

00.45 They are going to call time, move it legs, move it!

00.07 People are cheering I can hear it

00.01 TIMMEEEEEEEE, they just called time. I’m almost there.

So yet again, we find ourselves looking back at this morning, reflecting and reminding ourselves of what happened for those 25 minutes and 1 second. Maybe you were thinking of something completely different at the beginning. Maybe you went into this PR day never have done a PR day before or maybe this was your first return after the notorious PR day at the Rideau locks.  Whatever your reason and thoughts throughout the past 25 minutes and 1 second this morning maybe consider sharing them.  Maybe consider letting us know about them and maybe consider letting your tribe know about them. I mean we did just run the stairs together for the past 25 minutes and 1 second…

Shout out to our raceday winner- Caroline. And to our taggers Fauve and Ian- you are responsible for spreading the NP love and #grassrootsgear around the city, so thank you for that.  Your cheering for those making it to the top was also a push most people needed!

Here’s to bringing soles together,

Lauren and Liz
