The smoke! It foiled our holiday Monday plans yet again.
Good thing we know how to pivot…. and ask for help. Thank you to our friend, Steve Baker, for generously giving us access to Telus World of Science for our second ever indoor workout. It was a different kind of morning for sure! Way to crush it today!
I’ve been reflecting a lot in the past few days. I’m not sure why this year in particular is one that I’ve paid attention to. Maybe it’s because my niece is heading to university tomorrow or that I’m about to mentor a BComm student.
It’s been exactly 17 years since I moved to this city.
I moved here, very uncertain of myself and what I was attempting to do- start and complete a business degree.
A few initial notices from all those years ago (yes, I remember):
- Where’s the city? We landed in farmers’ fields. Oh, it’s there. It’s really small. But that one street is kinda lively!
- That river looks nice.
- Where are all the brown people? Is it just my sister and I?
- Two years is SUCH a long time (the length of the degree).
- Will I meet friends? Is my sister going to be my only friend in this place?
- These new classmates seem fun!
- When is there a break so I can go home?
I’ve been thinking about ALL these years. I wasn’t ever planning on staying here all this time. I wasn’t planning on meeting a husband. I wasn’t planning on starting a career. I wasn’t planning on finding such great friends- in so many parts of my life. I wasn’t planning on finding… my place.
I’m sure the “down memory lane” will continue for a while longer.

- Wednesday at 5:58am- it’s time for yearbook photos!! Yes, PICTURE DAY! This year’s theme- 80s! Anything and everything! Oh yeah, we’ll be doing some stairs too. Meet at Gate 2, Commonwealth Stadium.
