Winter is here.

First snowfall workout of the dark season and Jen layed it on hard!  It was a ninja workout in a brand new park but the only time any shhh’s were needed was pre bounce…after that, shit got too hard for anyone to talk much.  Laps around a beauty of a pond (swimming only mildly recommended) followed by pyramids of burpees, pushups, mountain climbers and lunges/squat jumps left everyone feeling pretty jacked at 630.  Trent was in T-shirt and shorts…Seximus Seamasaurus left his shirt on and the rest of us had 3 layers and two pairs of gloves on.  I can do -30C but this transition period is the worst!  For layering reminders… ask Jen, she remembers everything MEC told us.  But I think it goes something like this:

natural fibers like merino wool wick away the sweat the best, so that should be your first layer

after that, you can stick with natural or go with synthetics as a second layer to hold the heat in, I like lulu stuff, sometimes they have a heavier long sleeve for winter which I basically wear every NP.

finish with a wind/water resistant layer, doesn’t have to be one of those huge puffball jackets!

an investment in good socks is worth it’s weight in gold

same goes for gloves…

Shoes are key.  Tough to do anything in normal summer runners once the snow hits.  A solid pair of trail runners rules!  You won’t slip as much, you’ll stay more dry and warm, and you’ll have more support.  I like La Sportiva which MEC sells but there are a ton of options other than that.

Would be cool to see people lay out their layers and give a little write up on them so others can take a peak and learn a thing or two.  Being cold and wet really sucks…sucks worse than waking up at 5.  Dress right and you can actually enjoy the season of dark.

Thanks to all of the hardy souls who joined us this morning, see you Wednesday at ROYAL GLENORA stairs.👍🏽🤘🏽
