I’ve been wanting to snap a group photo by this cauldron for a long time now. We received some feedback today about how it was thoughtful of us to plan the workout where it was so that we’d be a bit more protected from the wind, because it was a cold one. While that was in our thoughts, we mostly just wanted to include this cauldron. All morning, I had the lyrics of Jenn Grant in my head; ‘I’ve got your fire, I’ve got your fire, I’ve got your fire…’ (in my head I always hear the last one as ‘I’ve got you fired up’).
If you weren’t there this morning, you missed a great circuit workout, followed by another circle workout where everyone shouted out their names and how long they’ve been coming to NP, all while holding a squat and doing squat jumps of course. It was quite the range, from the days of WPG Gone Rogue, to a first-timer. Before the bounce, I asked people how many started coming because they saw a news segment about us or heard about it on the radio (no one raised their hands, although Dave did tell me after that he had read it in a CBC article a year ago). Then I asked who started coming because someone told them about it and convinced them to try it just once, and almost everyone put their hands up.
What I was getting at with that demonstration is that it’s the accountability from each other that keeps us coming, especially during these cold months. It’s also up to us to actively ‘recruit’ new people to the workout. This week, think of someone who you miss seeing at November Project, reach out to them, and invite them back next week. Also, think of someone that you know who has never been to a workout, and tell them to come. That’ll be the real challenge, because showing up for your first one in the winter months is hard, yet we get people doing just that every week.
The reason I brought it up this morning (the news versus word of mouth); I was asked to go in to the Radio Canada studio yesterday morning to do a ten minute interview in French. I was pretty nervous about it, my French is very rusty, but I figured do it for the group, you never know who will listen and maybe just show up. It also made me realize that while the media coverage is great for getting more recognition for the group, what actually pushes people to come try it out is if someone they know talks them into it, although there are certainly exceptions. So it inspired me to reiterate that it’s on all of us to recruit and to not just hold our friends accountable, but to let them know that we genuinely look forward to seeing them at the workout.
Here is the interview, I haven’t watched it myself yet…

Megan will be doing a blog on Friday about the 12 Days of Fitmas, which will be amazing. The hot yoga at Awesome last Friday was a hit, almost 45 NP people showed up. Make sure to pre-register on MINDBODY. If it fills up, Moksha on Donald is now offering a $5 community flow class as well.
Finally, Wild Bill passed off the Shabooya Award to Bruce Almighty (I never knew he used to run all the way from Charleswood for the workouts). We love Bruce and his golden retrievers.

See you all next week! Thanks for showing up this morning.
