… is not today.
But for the sake of convenience, scheduling and a general lack of confusion, we say that today is that day. The longest day of the year was actually yesterday, and it was longer by 1 second. You might think that it is only one second, and that is basically insignificant. Is it? If you ask Usain Bolt or Andrew De Grasse, 1 second is a long time. If you’ve ever PR’d by 1 second, then you know that shaving 1 second off is not easy. What if I told you that a certain pair of shoes would make you 1 second faster? And that certain sunglasses would make you 1 second faster? Or what if I told you that if you wear a certain shirt, you’ll be 1 second faster? Or if I told you that you drank a certain amount of water, you’ll be 1 second faster? Or if you eat oats for breakfast, you’ll be 1 second faster? Or that for every high five you give out, you’ll be 1 second faster. How many seconds are we at now?
Here’s the thing: Whether we are talking about running, or even life, every improvement we make, no matter how small, is worth it. The sum of all these improvements make a big difference. It’s all hidden in the details. So whatever it is you do, let’s be 1 second or percent better. Brush your teeth with 1 percent more effort. Hug someone for 1 second longer. Add 1 percent more deliciousness into your meal. Spend 1 second more enjoying the second longest day of the year. And whenever you’re running up a set of stairs, give 1 percent more effort. You’ll be better for all of it… and your dentist will thank you.

I’m taking a second to tell you I enjoyed reading your blog and another one to leave a reply!
Wait a second… hills for breakfast tomorrow but not before the one second oatmeal.
