The Fog- NP_BAL

Today was a foggy morning. It’s mornings like these, spooky, gloomy days where completing a workout ( especially P.R day) makes you feel just a bit more awesome than the not-sweaty dude standing in front of you in line for your coffee.

Colin Marshall weighs in. If  you don’t know him, he’s the sprightly young fellow who somehow managed to open his own brewery here in Baltimore and probably freaked you out with his enthusiasm this morning ( or any morning). He keeps it short and sweet. Get ready to party at his brewery, Diamondback, December 9’th for our third annual City Glow event!

When I sit down to write a short note, email, proposal, cover letter etc.., I tend to overthink, pace or stare for quite sometime before committing to the task at hand. Maybe it’s my lack of attention or “writer’s block”, as they may say, but it’s different when I sit down to write this blog. The thoughts and words flow seamlessly onto the page because it’s from the heart and it’s directed towards a community of people that come from a wide array of backgrounds, but for one hour on Wednesday morning we are committed to each other.

We have 168 hours in one week to make it all count for something and yet I still look forward to that one with November Project Baltimore. The pre-workout coffee. Bike ride or run through Federal Hill to Rash Field (especially this morning in the fog. I felt like I was in a movie). The first few faces I see upon arriving. The hugs, butt slaps (Kay, you were firm this morning) high fives, “happy to see you”, blank stares of “what the hell is this workout?” and a few wolf calls (Nick Paul- you know what I mean. Pass it on) make it oh so worth the groggy wake up.
My point in emphasizing the importance of one hour per week is to question our motives and interactions the other 167 hours per week. When you’re not sleeping, pooping, or hanging out with your grandmother, find some time for the strangers around you. I speak for myself when I say it’s not easy sometimes but neither is waking up for cold, Wednesday morning workouts.
Strangers.  For now.

Congrats to Tammy on winning the positivity award this morning. She deserves it like Pat deserves a big bowl of Captain Crunch. ( That is…really fucking deserves it!)
