Next week is going to be HYPE!
Three times in one week.
Monday, June 19th: Investors Group Stadium. Be there at 6am, workout starts at 6:14. We’ve been waiting 3 years to get in there let’s make it HUGE! Also, sadly, Monday is Tom’s last workout as a leader, let’s show up to show him that we appreciate him and this movement that he and Rick built.
Wednesday, June 21st: “Normal” NP workout, same Bat time, same Bat channel.
Friday, June 23rd: Garbage Hill, 6:14. We’re working out there to support Junel who is running for 12 HOURS in his Taking Stigma to the Trash Fundraiser in support of mental health literacy, it’s gonna be epic.
This community inspires the heck out of me. Week after week, this tribe continues to show up and embrace every part of this wild November Project movement that we’re building. When we said #raceeverything I didn’t realize you all would take it to heart. This Sunday there’s a little event happening in our city called The Manitoba Marathon. Earlier this week someone commented in the NP YWG Community FB group asking for people to cheer during the race, and like half the tribe commented that they couldn’t because they were running one event or another and I WAS BLOWN AWAY! You go! I love to run, I love to race, running is a huge part of my life and I feel so lucky to be part of a community that embraces running the way that I do. I reached out to hear your stories and as usual you did not disappoint. Thank you sharing with me and giving me the opportunity to shine some light on your stories and to celebrate you!
Oliver Silastre:

What event are you running? I’m running the half.
What inspires you to run? I’m running for my late father. He’s my inspiration for staying in shape, doing what I love and never giving up. And of course our tribe, I’m honestly inspired by everyone!
What does running mean to you? If it were one word hmm.. Showing “Compassion” in hopes to create a chain reaction, my first step was just showing up!
How has the NP community helped you on your running journey? Before NP, I was at a point where I let myself go, I was not in shape, I was lazy. Now that I look back and see how far I’ve come, NP has changed my life in so many ways. Running and showing up every Wednesday has become part of my lifestyle. To me, it’s not even about the
workout, it’s about seeing the community come together to motivate, inspire and embrace each other to become the best version of ourselves! It’s a reminder that there is hope and you’re not alone in this world and that you are enough.
Evan Kroeker:

What event are you running? Half marathon What inspires you to run? November Project is what got me into running and any kind of group fitness outside of just lifting weights at the gym and to be honest, has seriously changed my life. I’m a pretty shy person, but since coming to NP and being surrounded by all the most friendly people ever at least once a week, I am way more outgoing in life in general, and have made so many great friends at NP! I’ve never really been unhappy, but I am absolutely a more happy, positive person since I started coming, and it has been pointed out by my other friends and family. So, I guess ya’ll are my inspiration and motivation!
Why do you race in #grassrootsgear? I wear grassroots gear because NP is obviously an amazing community, and I’m super proud to be associated with it. Also I’ve had lots of people ask about it, and it works as a way to tell
them all about it and recruit!
Kristjana Laine:

What event are you running? I’m running the Super Run with the children from the school I was teaching at for my practicum! I really wanted to be apart of their running club and help motivate them they way everyone at November Project motivates me.
Cathie Coughlin:

What event are you running? I’m running the half.
What inspires you to run? I’ve been inspired by all of the others who have gone before me (fast and slow); running to me is the privilege of having my body do what it was meant to do – move; we all need to move!
Why do you race in #grassrootsgear: I race in our grassroots gear because it represents our community. The NP Community has helped me to achieve my goal of running the Boston Marathon!! Thank you, NPYWG!!
Janet Young:

What event are you running? I’m running the last leg of the Marathon Relay (10 kilometers)
What inspires you to run? Me. I know that sounds awful but I am truly inspired by how far I’ve come in the past 16 months. I don’t talk about my injury a lot as I don’t want that to be the story that defines me. I want my positive and upbeat personality to be the first thing others remember about me, not that I smashed my face into the ground two winters ago. For the past 8 months, I’ve been working daily on what’s called exposure therapy as a part of my recovery. We all know that brain trauma can induce entirely different symptoms in different people. Mine has been a longer recovery than I thought. Running this weekend, I know I will be safe and well cared for by the MB Marathon staff and volunteers. I know that wearing my #grassrootsgear will show others that I am not only a badass but I believe that #thisshitisgood. Even though they might not know my name, hearing ‘’great job NP’’ is just as encouraging as hearing someone cheering me on directly!
How has the NP community helped you on your running journey? November Project sneakily turned me into a runner when I wasn’t paying attention. Over these past two years of workouts, jogging from exercise to exercise and lunging across the bridge, I’ve somehow transformed into a runner. Good job for that NP! Plus, running with others has given me the chance to work on my anxieties and just realize how supportive and loving this November Project community really is.
Mark Alward:

What event are you running? Running the half.
What inspires you to run? Growing up, my mom was always a runner. She did a bunch of halves, and then did a couple full as well. Last year I made it a goal to run my first half in 2017 and started training in May after exams.
Why do you race in #grassrootsgear? I race in my #grassrootsgear for three reasons. First, and definitely most importantly, is recruitment! Friends see the pictures of all the NPers at these events and it can help get them out of
bed on a Wednesday morning! Second, to show that #thetribeisstrong. It’s more for the social aspect at that point. People see us bounce, cheer each other on, and be super positive both during the race and after. Third, when I’m well into my run and it’s not going the best, or I’m fading or feeling like I can’t do it; I can look down at my tag and mentally picture everyone cheering, which can help push past that mental block. It’s just such a positive feeling to be part of such an awesome group and having that tag and representing November Project helps to push me to go faster and push harder when there’s nothing left in the tank.
Renee Desjardins:

How has the NP community helped you on your running journey? When I moved to Manitoba, I had no on to run with, to motivate me to run. I always enjoyed running solo, but it’s always nice to have folks you know pointing you to good run routes or providing tips and encouragement. By joining NP, I immediately connected with runners of all levels and it renewed my love and enthusiasm for running. One of my most memorable NP moments was cheering for 7 hours with other tribe members including Kristjana (#teamtall) at the 2016 Manitoba Marathon. I saw people who were just about to give up liven up when they saw and heard the NP cheer station. Since then, I’ve realized just how much I can give back to the running community by cheering. To me, the cheerline is as important as being on the course. I’m really excited to see more and more people feel the same. #raceverything #cheereveryone #cantstopwontstop
Jennifer Parisian:

What event are you running? I’m running in the relay!
What inspires you to run? The sole reason I got into running is because of November Project. There’s no way I would have started if I wasn’t part of this community, or if I hadn’t met some incredible people at NP who have pushed me so much in the last couple of months to start racing. Running means so much to me now because there was a long period of time when I convinced myself that my body wasn’t made to run. I used to be much more self conscious about my slow speed and the fact that I have to wear knee braces while I run, so I never thought I should even try racing. But, even the fastest people at NP cheer for me and tell me how proud they are of what I’m doing. Why do you race in #grassrootsgear? I will always wear grassroots gear while I run, because I’m so proud to be part of this community of people who support each other relentlessly and give each other so much love. I wish I could figure out a way to truly express my gratitude to every tribe member who has helped me along the way, and I’m so excited for all the races in my future! Ready to #raceeverything this weekend, and maybe even be #fastandfemale one day.
THE TRIBE IS STRONG! I am so inspired by you all! Thank you for showing up and opening up. I know that you all are going to leave your hearts out there on that course. I am so excited to be out there with you running and cheering! If you’re running, rep that grassroots gear, if you’re not, get out there and cheer and support your tribe. We run this city. #raceeverything
See you on the course!
