#Sunrise6K – probably the greatest of mornings (NPSF)

Before we get to the blog, two announcements:
  1. Happy Hour tonight at Lucky 13, Market St. Gather from 5:30PM. It’s cash only but you can bring food in with you if you’re carbloading so desires.
  2. Monday’s workout will be at the Palace of Fine Arts. NOT FORT MASON. Bring a yoga mat or a towel or something. We shall be doing some post-race yogaing.

As expected, the Tribe, the sun, the sky all showed up and threw the fuck down at our Sunrise 6K. What a spectacle. From those finishing in the sub-20s through to those in the sub-40s, it’s amazing to see the brilliant effort, the enthusiastic support and the sheer joy out there amongst the Tribe. One of the best performances out there was Nikhil. 6000m was the longest Nikhil was raced to this date… the longest he’s ran to this date. We’re so proud to see how you’ve come along as a runner these past few weeks, Nikhil. And glad to hear I’m converting you to the trails. Somewhere in the hazy post-race, you said you’d prefer some soft ground to run on, and well I took that as pretty much verballing to become a trail runner.

Make sure to submit your times on the tracker, so you can follow your PRs from year to year, and so we can brag to the other Tribes about how the SF Tribe as a whole is still king. And thank you to everyone who helped with today’s race…
  • Tony & Amanda for creating the ridiculously fantastic custom tag
  • Erin and Blair for helping us out with quality photographing
  • Chris, Matt, #PaulLeak & Jenni for the accurate timing and constant reminding that our splits were not quite up to speed
  • The direction/highfive/turnaround team of RAD, Shinyoung and Patrick
  • Big ups to Kylie “bakes a cake” Baker for converting her Positivity Award to delicious dessert. It was delightful!
  • And a huge thanks to our friends at The North Face who gave us some quality growlers, hats and scarves for our top 3 podium finishers. Cheers Maeve!

And Nick Buck. That was quite the history lesson. Definitely the greatest history lesson this city has ever seen. The most accurate. The most in-depth. No-one knows the history of the ballpark better. Not even the Tings. Not even the Tings.

In the heat of the moment post-race, we decided to interview some of the racers. First up, F2 and Queen of the Westside, Emma McCune…

PADDY:
Great racing out there, McCune. Seems you came out on top of the McC Battle of San Francisco. Were you ever worried about Laura catching you?
EMMA MCCUNE: I was extremely worried, which is why I sprinted as fast as I could as soon as I heard Laura yell “THERE SHE IS” as soon as the gun went off. I just wanted to get as far away as possible from her.
PADDY: Sure. Yup. Sure. Many people seem to feel the same about Laura. A realllll people person
EMMA MCCUNE: Most definitely.
PADDY: Ok so one more question. We seem to have a new sheriff in town, Lizzy G. Supposedly this morning’s race was a shakeout before she runs a marathon this evening. Any comments on that bullish confidence?
EMMA MCCUNE: Well I would tell her that she shouldn’t get too comfortable as the new sheriff in town because I wasn’t even trying this morning… and then I would challenge her to a battle I can actually win, like a burrito eating contest.
PADDY: A successor for the Kenny Wong McNugget contest is in order I think. Great. Solid work out there, Emma but I’m gonna have to cut this interview short. Sorry there’s a person with much nicer hair standing right there that will probably be much more interesting. Brandon. Brendan. Berdinger. Quick interview?
BRADEN: (smoothly caresses his fringe) Sure thing, Paddy!

PADDY: So Braden, great race out there. That stride form. Simply stellar. Though last year, I recall you were awarded the Positivity Award at this very race. What happened out there in the race today… instead of this year. Where’d your positivity go?
BRADEN ENGEL: It’s a good question Paddy, I’m glad you asked it. You know what they say…oh you don’t know? Ok I’ll tell you what they say (and by “they” I mean Jean-Michel): When Positivity Hits It Hurts. I honestly don’t have the foggiest what that means, but it’s what they say. What I do know is this: after the PA came my way I PR’d by two minutes this year, so hooray for me and all that. Beautiful morning out there today made more beautiful with everyone’s happy faces.
PADDY: Great. Great. Simply great. The best! So coming into next year’s event. Do you think you can take the Positivity Award back from Kylie the Baker? The wooden one or the cake?
BRADEN: I don’t think anyone should aim to win the PA back, but I’ll gladly take baked goods from Kylie at any opportunity.
PADDY: So wise. Those greys are really showing. OK, keep it moving then Braden. We’ve more positive people to talk to. Oh the Frenchman. He’ll be good for a few quotes. Seany Mike!! JMB. JM Bizzle. Any chance we can have a quick word?
JEAN MICHEL BOUJON: Wee!

PADDY: How’d it feel out for you there? This great event live up to its expectations.
JMB: Today, I experienced two major events in my life.
1- I witnessed first hand Laura’s DNF. I was right behind her. She could probably hear me breath. I believe the pressure was too strong for her to keep up.
2- Three minutes later, Braden Engel passes me like I am a complete stranger. Not even a word. After unfriending Paddy from Facebook last year, Braden may be the first one I blacklist in 2017.
PADDY: Cheers JMB. Once again, apologies for taking your Hawk Hill PR. Thought we were over this!
