Red, white and you (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Kristjana is the epitome of NP
  • June was a busy month
  • Canada Day workout on Friday. January- June birthdays wear RED. July-December- wear WHITE. 6:14 am at The Legislative Building

First things first, Kristjana is the realest. She lives for this shit, and she does it well. When we had the recruiting challenge, she handily won by bringing out the most first timers. She shows up, works hard, recruits, keeps that big smile on her face, and like Megan said, she knows a lot about November Project. She seems to know what’s going on in every city that has a tribe. She also made the journey out to Boston for Summit this year, running the stairs at Harvard Stadium and then racing in the relay the next day (which was a BEAST of a Mountain). Both of those things are impressive on their own, doing it back to back; well done. She wears grassroots gear to everything (although not in this picture, oddly enough) and she’s been deserving of the award for a long time; congratulations Kristjana.

June was a busy month. We had the third birthday, the dragon boat festival, Summit 5 in Boston, Manitoba Marathon weekend, Investor’s Group Field stair workout the following day (and Tom’s farewell), the garbage hill run for Junel’s Trash Stigma, and we are finishing it off with a Canada Day workout on Friday, June 30th at the Legislative Building. (Jan-June- wear RED, July-Dec- wear WHITE, it’s paramount for the workout to be successful)

There could be a blog for every one of those events, but we’ve been so busy actually doing the events that we haven’t quite had the chance. I’ve had inspiration to write about these events, but I’ve started second guessing myself a bit too much. The truth is, each and every person that shows up is an inspiration, and each person deserves a shout out. Everyone that raced in the marathon, whatever distance and whatever speed, deserves recognition. Everyone that showed up and cheered until their lungs were raw also deserves the same recognition. Everyone that shows up on a Wednesday or Friday morning deserves recognition.

NP is a living, breathing, growing thing. As the movement as a whole is constantly changing and adapting to the growth and world takeover, we are trying our best to change with it and keep it real. Hence the change to the PR day today. We wanted to trial a workout where everyone is running for the same amount of time (30 minutes instead of 2 or 4km), and encourage interaction during the time trial (swapping directions every second lap of the loop). It is change, and some of you might not love it, I understand. I personally love the 4km out and back along the river. But if this format is better for the tribe and the community, (plus you’re getting a longer run in= better workout) then maybe it’s worth giving it an honest try. PR format was something that was discussed at Summit, and we are trying to be open to these ideas.

Another thing that we discussed at Summit was recruiting. It made me think more about the message I’m conveying when I tell people about NP, and I’ve been working on being a better recruiter. New faces at the workout is always a good thing; it’s a friendship or connection that is waiting to happen. When you see a new face, please make them feel welcome so that they can get the same experience that we’ve all had.

See you all Friday morning for an epic Canada Day workout. Make sure to wear your colours so you can take some great selfies.
