‘There is nothing permanent except change’ -Heraclitus of Ephesus

NEWS:
This morning left me feeling motivated and inspired. After I scraped an inch of ice off my windshield and made it to the workout with minutes to spare, I was sure it would be a small turnout. You all proved me wrong. Not only did you show up in numbers, you filled the back seat of my car with gear for the ‘Koats for Kids’ drive. Thank you for being there, and for giving back to the community.
We also had Global News out this morning to put us on their morning show. We were on at 6:50 and then we were supposed to be on again at 7:05, but they pushed it back to 7:20. This lead to the longest group photo in the history of November Project, but thank you all for sticking it out and making jokes at my expense (yes, I could hear every word… not really though, I just assume that’s what was happening). Then they wanted to have us on again at 8:20, and since we finish our workouts at 7:14am, we decided to bring in the babysitters club and run a second workout. Big kudos to everyone that was able to stay and do the second set; I’m sure everyone who did the first workout will be sore tomorrow, and everyone who did both will be beyond sore. Special thanks to Beardo the Weirdo and the Beardless Beauty for filling in. We had a serious call with them last night to plan how it would run this morning (see below).

Seriously though, huge thanks to Jamie and Colin for volunteering their time and helping us out. Hopefully with this exposure we can get some new faces out to the workouts over the winter.

I’m going into my fourth winter with November Project Winnipeg, I started coming in January of 2015, so the first winter was kind of a half winter, but something that stands out is how this group is in a constant state of flux; always changing, growing, shrinking, growing again… people come and people go. Rick commented that out of all the people at this year’s lumberjack workout, maybe 25% were at the first one two years ago. I think it’s really cool, having new faces there and seeing how ‘into it’ they are, which is why we do emphasize recruiting people all the time. Check out today’s message in ‘The Daily Stoic’, I thought it was very suiting for how I’ve been feeling about NP lately:

If you’ve been coming since the very beginning, you’ve been a part of that change. You’ve seen how the tribe has grown, you’ve seen people come and go, you’ve seen changes in leadership, changes in how things are run. There have been growing pains for sure, learning lessons for all of us, and we will constantly try to be better, to do what’s best for the tribe. I’m guilty of fighting change myself; as an example, I miss the old PR format, but I finally had the chance to run the new PR loop at the end of October and realized it was actually pretty great. Change is a good thing, and it’s inevitable.
If you’ve been coming for four years or four weeks, we are glad you’re here. If you’re on the fence about coming to try your first workout, we hope you take the plunge and just show up next Wednesday.

Lastly, the Shabooya award (the award passed from member to member) was passed from Jody to Brose this morning. He also won the coolest name award. Megan’s sweaty camera captured the moment.
Have a great day everybody! Share the videos, recruit everyone, and see you next Wednesday!
