Newbie Day Welcome Package (YEG)

If today was your first time joining a NP workout, welcome! I hope you had the best morning! I know joining a new group for the first time can be intimidating and uncomfortable so I want to thank and congratulate you for coming out.

I thought I’d use the blog today to share a few facts about November Project with all the newbies and let you know who we are and what we’re about. So here you go:

  • There are over 50 November Project cities all over the globe. It was started in Boston by two former rowers. Our Edmonton community started in 2013 and was the first NP community in Canada.
  • The current co-leaders are Rob McDougall and Eric Decorby (the author of this blog😊). Rob has been at this for a while (over 5 years!) and I’m fairly new to the co-leading gig, having started last October. We’re always happy to discuss any questions or concerns so please reach out or find us at a workout!
  • We do three workouts per week, year round (yes, even on the coldest days, and even on Christmas). Wednesdays are always stairs – Commonwealth in summer and Royal Glenora Stairs in winter). Fridays are always hill repeats at Walterdale Hill. Meet at the bottom of the hill near the Kinsmen parking lot if you’re coming on Friday. Monday’s locations are different every week so stay tuned to our social media pages on Fridays and Sundays to learn where we’ll be.
  • All workouts are done in a loop, so you never have to worry about being too slow or too fast. There’s always someone in front and someone behind you.
  • People of all ages come to NP. We’ve seen everyone from babies to people in their 90s. Dogs come too, just not on Wednesdays. If your dog would like to come, please tell your dog to come on a Friday (that’s the best NP day for dogs).
  • After (almost) every workout Rob and/or I do a blog/vlog. I’m guessing you might have figured that out if you’ve made it here. Fridays we do a vlog on from the back of my truck called “Tailgate Talks”. I’m not sure that anyone else finds it funny, but Rob and I think it’s hilarious.
  • You may have seen people with “tagged” shirts. Occasionally during the summer, we spray paint our logo onto shirts. Our logo is the November Project logo, plus our “city tag”, which is a maple leaf to represent that we’re the first NP city in Canada. Stay tuned for the next tagging day sometime later in June. However, we are doing a special Oilers tag on Friday so be sure to bring an extra shirt (preferably a white one) then!

I’m sure there’s many more things I could share, but I’ll leave it there for now. As mentioned, reach out if you have any questions.

Happy Newbie Day! And happy Global Run Day too!

REMINDER: OILERS TAGS THIS FRIDAY!!!

Lift each other up,

Eric
