Middle School Dance Edition

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! We are happy you’re here! This morning we saw ~20 newbies across the 5:30 and 6:30 and solid groups at both workouts! WELCOME hope to see you all on Friday!

Middle School Dances…you know it goes. It usually starts with lonely wallflowers…songs progress, the DJ excites the crowd, maybe you  make one friend and you’re timidly dancing in your pair. The crowd starts feeling a bit more comfortable, making friends having a good time and soon enough 2 turns into 4 turns into 8 and you’re electric sliding your way to new friendships while tripping over each other pretending you know the moves. No? That was just me? Probably so, but you get the point!

November Project, much like middle school dances (sometimes) can be hard at first to break into the crowd. You think everyone has been around since the dawn of NP hugging, laughing, oh and some working out too. BUT BUT BUT every single of us was new at one point, even Nick had a first day (circa November 2013), and it’s REALLY important we all remember what it felt like to be the new person. And also, to the newbies out there, don’t you forget that either! We were all new to this NP thing at one point!

When I started at November Project Baltimore in January 2014, Wednesday at 6:30 was my only option. This was hard for me to come consistently with my nursing schedule and a new job where I had little control over which days/nights I worked. I came as frequently as I could but it was difficult to make friends, needless to say I was hooked by the dedication of everyone there showing up to run around and workout despite snowy and icy conditions. I don’t think I actually remembered anyone’s name that I met at NP until March and then when Fridays started being a thing, I could be a bit more consistent at NP and started to remember names and make real connections. The moral of my story is to just keep showing up and get involved! You will get out of this what you put in as most things work. Put yourself out there and reach out to some people you don’t recognize at workouts. Keep welcoming everyone you see whether it is their 10th workout or their 300th workout!
