Running, in a sense, is poetry in motion.
It’s creative. It’s explorative. There’s no wrong way to do it. Every step is different. Every gait varies. Everyone runs at their own pace, and for their own reasons.
CONNECTION.
So why am I spouting off about running & poetry on a Friday morning? Because for the first time in November Project DC history — and maybe in November Project Worldwide history — we are holding a POETRY CONTEST! That’s right. From now until next Friday, Aug. 25, send us your poems, your haikus, your limericks. We’ll feature them throughout next week* and then choose three winners who will receive free entry into the Baltimore Running Festival Oct. 21.
*If you don’t want your poem shared, that’s totally ok. Just let us know.
The BASICS:
1. Write 1 poem about any aspect of November Project
2. Send it to novprojectdc@gmail.com by Friday, Aug. 25
3. You’re done! Our Committee of 3 will vote on the top 3 poems
Busy Oct. 21 but still want to write? SURE! The more poetry we get, the better. Who knows — maybe one day there’ll be an NP_DC Poetry Book!
How long should poems be? There are ZERO guidelines. A 5-7-5 haiku. A 20-liner. A 100-liner. You choose. Just find a computer and start punching the keys.
Here’s my entry, compiled in 29 seconds. I think you can top it:
PR Day
The stairs keep coming
The laps they just get longer
But then granite BOOM
Now go forth and write, NP poets!
