Since this group of hoodlums spent the morning loitering in front of Brookline High School, it seems only appropriate we all walk run* away with a little educational lesson – a piece of knowledge – from today’s #destinationdeck.
After warming up with a super technical, adult game of sharks and minnows. We partnered up, split up into 4 teams and cycled through 4 circuits.
Circuit #1 on the steps of BHS (where some of our tribe reconnected with old math and physics teachers) one partner held a wall squat while the other threaded the stair case like a whisker basket.
During the circuit #2 one partner busted out 10 SLOW MOTION** tricep dips while the other one box jumped behind.
Circuit #3 consisted of shuffling between the trees while the your partner waited patiently for you to sandbag your ‘sprint’ back to them….
And finally circuit 4. The circuit where today’s lesson comes from. Plank Baseball.
As a team, every player planked shoulder to shoulder down the first base line. The last person in the plank line sprinted to the front in a leap-frog fashion. The team tried to make their way around all the bases. In 4 minutes, no single team made it the entire way around home. Don’t worry home base isn’t all it’s hyped up to be… But what you may or may not have realized was that the workout was basically planking for 4 minutes…
Yeah, we’re tricky fuckers, we know. But besides the 4-5 second sprints in between, you were holding a long-ass plank. You will probably feel those planks well into your Thanksgiving dinner. You’re welcome.
The Lesson: By adding some spicy distractions to the exercise, something new to focus on, our attitude towards planking changes up. Rather than heading into the circuit in a miserable state, you might have been intrigued to see the chaos that the Chris’ came up with.
Probably around minute 2 you realized what we were doing as your core began screaming curses at us. It’s less about those curses and more about changing up your frame of reference. It’s easy to go into a Monday AM deck asking “why the hell am I getting up at the ass crack of dawn to workout in the miserably cold and dark streets of Boston…”. That sounds terrible. Nobody would leave their warm bed for that. But if you can change your frame of reference and start wondering what crazy, weird shenanigan you’ll get into before the rest of the city wakes up, you might ACTUALLY just trick yourself into showing up on Monday. We can promise you that no one has ever regretted showing up to a Monday. Go ahead, check our yelp reviews…
