A few years ago, at one of the NP Summits, the leaders talked about how “November Project is changing the fabric of the cities we live in.” We know it’s true. You can read the personal stories on the website, you can read this NP book, and you can watch the documentary. And while I still believe that to be true, it doesn’t capture the extent of our impact. Here’s how I’d change it:
“The people of November Project are changing the fabric of the world we live in.”
So often, we have talked about how you may be inspiring someone and not even realize it. Someone is chasing you as you climb the hill, or someone is trying to hug as tight as you are. You really know less than 5% of the people you are impacting, and that’s just at our workout. We could talk forever about the impact each of us have on one another. We are changing the fabric of the people in our tribe.
You are impacting people in your city that don’t even show up to November Project. Remember Breanna from the news? She stalked us on social media and through the blogs for almost a year before she came to a workout. She already knew and was inspired by you and your stories. We are changing the fabric of the cities that we live in.
Did you know that the founders NP Ottawa (welcome to the family) and NP Winnipeg started their tribes because of tribe members from Edmonton? In both cases, someone had fun and enjoyed the energy at NP Canada workouts so much, that they decided to tell their sister that the city they live in needs to have a community as awesome as the one we have built here. We are the same. Andrew was so inspired by the Boston workout that he forced it upon his sister to lead a tribe in Edmonton. There are even current pledge tribes that are connected in the same way (see Regina, Malaysia). People show up at our workouts from all over and say “Hey, that was awesome. I want that in my city.” And make no mistake, that awesome, is the energy, positivity and vibe that you bring to the workout every single day. I’ll bet you didn’t even realize that you played a part in the growth of the November Project movement outside of Edmonton. We are changing the fabric of the cities that November Project Tribes are in.
Which brings us to today. As you may already know, we threw out a simple request to wear hockey gear or wear green to honour a fellow tribe member from Boston/Worcester who passed away this past weekend. Whether you met Ben and his wife Jenn on their visit to Edmonton last year, at one of the NPsummits, or even just from likes or comments on twitter and Instagram, he changed the fabric of our tribe. Ben had visited over 10 tribes, closely followed the 26 others, and been patiently keeping tabs on all of the pledge tribes. Someway or somehow, Ben was connected to every tribe. Every single tribe will tell you the same thing. He had a huge smile, a kind heart, tight hugs, and an unmatched passion for November Project. He consistently brought that, every single day.
As we show up at workouts every week, it is easy to forget that we are connected to more than what is in our own city, our own tribe, and even our own workout. We see small moments of it whenever someone will come to visit, or when you travel to a city and visit their tribe. But days like today, as tough as they may be, reinforce that this movement is more connected than we even realize. Look no further in each tribe’s group picture for proof. How you show up and how you affect others in your tribe, your city and across the world is so much more important than you realize. It has never been more clear. The people of November Project are changing the fabric of the world we live in.
When I see our tribe rally like they did today, I beam with pride that we have somehow managed to find the absolute best people in Edmonton. I’m glad that we found each other.
Find the Good,
Nadim
