Bridge Changes and Tagging Mondays

Tribe,

After months of deliberation, we have decided it makes strategic sense to move away from the Randall’s Island Bridge Day. We love and appreciate you all and wanted to provide greater clarity on this move by offering more background and context.

Back in March, we identified and outlined some goals that we would like to achieve. Many of you gave us great feedback that helped shape them:

  1. Grow the tribe, with a goal of 500 at a single workout
  2. Increase diversity of the Tribe through collaboration and outreach
  3. Build greater partnerships to help benefit the Tribe

We are making good progress towards these goals and here is where stand today:

  1. The move to Morningside Park for Monday workouts has lead to a 65% increase in Monday attendance.
  2. The establishment of a monthly workout calendar has led to a 70% increase in attendance at Friday workouts.
  3. The development of a partnership with Coney Island Brewing has yielded the Crate Escape, our Beach Workout at Coney Island and better visibility to the general public.

We have a long way to go to reach all of our goals, but we are confident that with a strong effort on everyone’s part, we can get there. And here is where the move off of Randall’s Island comes in:

Since we started in March, average attendance at Randall’s Island has hovered at 25 people

(5:28am) and 56 (6:28am) respectively, or ~20% lower than our average attendance at Carl Schurz Park. That works out to an additional 21 people on a Wednesday and, over the course of the year 252 people. The potential to boost average attendance, taken together with the limited transit options and public visibility on the island, led us to the decision to keep Wednesdays in Carl Schurz Park.

We understand change is never easy. We understand that this may complicate tagging for some Tribe members and we will continue to be generous with tagging opportunities (i.e., Destination Deck or a Happy Hour tagging regularly). We know that some of you really enjoyed the Island and hate to see it go; we will certainly consider it in the rotation for Destination Decks since after all, it’s where this weird, beautiful Tribe first started.

We certainly appreciate all those who have reached out to us to express their concerns about this change; please know that your feedback is always welcome. The best way to navigate change is communication so please, let’s keep the conversation going.

Thank you for being here,

Rob, Jason & Mary
