14 extra minutes

The average time that a Canadian wakes up is 6:43am.  May that be in Halifax, Saskatoon or Victoria.  That is the average.

But by now you should know that just by showing up to any November Project workout, you are beyond anything that can be described as average.  You often find yourself eager to wake up on a Wednesday morning.   When in a past life, you would have just considered Wednesday another hump day in the middle of the week.  Using this day as a refuge to remind you that the weekend is only 2 days away. read more

What is this free fitness?

Let’s have this discussion about this free workout thing that happens Wednesday mornings at 6:29am. This thing where you #justshowup. Often when we workout, we have a good idea about what to expect from our hour workout. We know where we’re going to run, or which gym we’re going to and what the workout will look like. When you show up to NP, you’re often not really sure what you are going to be doing. You just know that the workout is going to be hard, if you’re doing it right. The unknown is intimidating. You don’t know if you’re going to have to run a lot or be on the ground a lot.  Maybe complete jump squats or burpees or be asked do adult-recess type things, or these weird things called “hoisties”, or if you are going to hug a stranger (just kidding, that’s a guarantee, so you can cross that one off the unknown list). read more

The power of sport and community

It is an honour to present this special guest blog post from a member of the NP Ottawa tribe who shows up with a smile and ready to work week in and week out. This year, she tackled her first marathon, a longtime goal she has had and completed it with a smile! She used NP as part of her training, and continued to show up, and modified as she needed to while tapering and recovering. She typically showed up with an additional family member and is often reaching out to people around the city to let them know about this community they can be a part of. She leads by example by setting goals, and working hard every time she shows up. Marci, thank you for sharing your story and experience with our community. read more

Go ahead, tickle a stranger’s earlobe

This blog is a reflection from this past November Project Summit, but also how it comes back to our local community and the dedicated members and courageous newbies who show up to Parliament Hill.

Coming down off an amazing weekend at NP Summit 5.0, is going to take some time for those who attended. You know when you talk to people every day about November Project? And you try to describe it, and how cool it is, and that you think they’ll like it, and that it’s not a running group, or a bootcamp, or a workout class, but a community? Well at NP Summit, not only did you not passionately attempt to tell people how great you think it is, but you often couldn’t walk by a group of people without them talking about something NP related. Each person has taken away something different from NP, or has impacted their life in someway, maybe small, maybe big. This weekend’s event is a difficult experience to describe because there isn’t a whole lot that compares to working out alongside 1500 people around the world. How amazing it was to turn around the corner and look into the sea of people filling Harvard stadium stairs, where it all began. Looking up part-way through the workout to see every section of the stadium filled with people from around the globe. read more

The Inauguration

There are not many words that can describe the raw emotions of Wednesday’s events in becoming the 37th city to join November Project. The fact that Bojan so casually strolled up to the centennial flame and stood among our tribe (or should we say towered over) as a regular weekly member, left us jaw-dropped. There were literally no words. With only a Facetime date planned with our amazing mentor Jen Ference post-workout for a quick check-in, it was just going to be another fun and exciting 6:29am workout on the hill. read more
