Saturday Edition- An acknowledgement

An abnormally busy day kept me from this yesterday… good thing today is a day. 😉

I want to first acknowledge the tragic and unnecessary death of two Edmonton Police Service members. It felt a bit heavy showing up on Friday morning. Rob and I wanted to somehow acknowledge this as I’m sure it was on some of your minds too.

One thing that Rob and I always come back to, which are lessons passed to our by our legacy NP Canada leaders, is to always plan for and think about YOU first. Always.

NP Canada is a place for ALL of us – regardless of how we believe, how we love, how fast or slow we run up that hill and more. We want to maintain that for us always. Working your a$$ off at 6am is your time and it’s our time together. We can put down all the other stuff that’s happening in our lives and around us and just sweat , strive, and share joy together.

I very much respect and am grateful for the work done by our Police Service, which is made up of individuals who choose to enter and grow a career in an industry that serves and supports others. That’s pretty selfless stuff. I can speak from personal experience, having asked members myself, that I have greater appreciation for “the why”. Why do they do this work? The answers I’ve heard back are pretty real and purpose driven.

So, as I ran up and down the hill with y’all (while huffing and puffing… that never goes away), I was thinking about two people who needlessly lost their lives. I think about the families that will move forward holding the memory of their loved ones in their hearts.

I’m a big “people person” which means that I immediately go to this. I think about the family dinners, friends’ night outs, careers, volunteer lives, and more that are forever paused for two individuals who bravely put their hand up to help, support, and protect the rest of us.

This is a bit heavy. I know that. What happened was heavy.

I hope you have a very happy and sunny weekend ahead. Enjoy all that you have planned. And I hope you take a few moments to look up at the sun, take a breath or two, and be grateful for all that is part of your life.

See you Monday. 🙂

…. the sun is gonna keep coming for us.
