Building NP Community (BOS)

We, the coleaders of NP Boston, are looking for individual members to help us strengthen our November Project Boston community. We are looking to broaden the opportunity for member-involvement in NP Boston leadership through the development of committees, which we will be sharing more about in the near future. Right now we are specifically looking to identify members who might be interested in becoming a co-leader. Boston has a long history of consistency in leadership, but because a sustainable community thrives beyond the tenure of any individual coleader, it is important for us to build sustainability as much as we have relied on consistency.  Growth has always been a central theme of November Project, from the initial days in November of 2011 up to now and far into the future–and now is a time to not only look for growth in members (as we have so often in the past), but also to strive for purposeful growth in the infrastructure of NP.

Please read on to see if getting more involved to help NP Boston is for you.

CO-LEADERS

Below is a list of characteristics that we believe best enable individuals to have a positive and positively-impactful co-leader experience.  However, this co-leader description is by no means fixed or final.  There are many ways that someone can contribute to successful NP leadership, so please see this list as a resource rather than the rule.  And if you see potential for leadership that looks different than the following description and you are interested in offering that, please don’t hesitate to include yourself in the co-leader conversation by completing this form. Submitting your name simply lets us know you’re interested to be considered, but is not a sign-up that guarantees the role.

We are looking for someone who is charismatic, who can draw positive energy out of others and can hold space for the group. This person would ideally love connecting in a group setting and have a heart for the mission of November Project, both as you bring it to life locally each week, as well as how you contribute to the longer-term, big picture goals for NP global. This individual should be creative and adaptable, able to roll with the many unexpected punches and spontaneous opportunities that come with the role, and hopefully have a good sense of humor to help bring levity and fun to our workouts. Ideally, this person should be organized and able to follow through on tasks, while navigating the multiple demands of your own life, work, and your role at NP.  Importantly, we are looking for someone who is self-aware and has the ability to navigate their own feelings and needs for self-care effectively enough to show up consistently for the community.  And this person is interested in and committed to building relationships with a wide variety of people.  When interacting with a large number of community members, a co-leader often needs to be patient, intuitive & understanding of other people’s perspectives and needs, compassionate, able to see the big picture even in challenging situations, and work to maintain the quality of those community relationships through healthy & helpful communication.

There are more specific tasks, responsibilities, and elements of the co-leader role that are not listed above, within both the local community and the greater global co-leader group. If you have questions about those, please feel free to attend/participate in the Co-Leader Office Hour (details listed below).

As November Project Boston moves toward the future, we are open and welcoming to development–we expect change, growth, and newness in positive ways–and we hope that future co-leaders are interested in shaping that development both within our weekly workouts and through inter-fitness-community relationships.

If you find yourself thinking that you’d love to help but don’t know if you’re the “right person”—maybe you’re concerned that you don’t have all the “necessary” skills or you’re telling yourself that you’d need to be ‘more this’ or ‘more that’ to be truly helpful—please remember that NP has always been a “grassroots organization” and it quite literally functions on the help of volunteers.  Please do what NP has always done for you—to see the potential and ability in you and to celebrate that.  Of course, please do what is best for you.  Everyone has a lot going on in their own lives and we are not asking you to over-extend yourself.  But please consider that you might be amazing in a committee or co-leader role at some point in the future and we’d love you to explore that possibility.

Also, you might find yourself thinking of someone else who you think would be a great future coleader. Cool–but please do not use this form for nominations of others. Instead, go talk to them and tell them you think they’d be a great coleader. You are welcome to encourage them to put in their name, but we are refraining from a ‘nominate others’ process at this point.

Please complete this form to express your interest in being considered for co-leadership.
