NP Boston is Racing 26×1: How to Join

On Sunday, August 15th, November Project Boston is racing a 26×1 relay against a bunch of other local running club teams, hosted by the Somerville Road Runners at Hormel Stadium in Medford: https://www.srr.org/26-x-1
Each person on the team runs a single mile, as fast as they can, and as a team this adds up to a whole marathon!

If your first thought is something like, “I’m not fast” or “I’m sure they don’t want me to do that…” then stop that thinking right now! This has been one of the most fun events for members of NP Boston to participate in because it really is for our whole community. You can be super fast or medium fast or not fast but what is “fast” anyway? If you’re running YOUR fastest, then it’s fast! And we need 26 whole humans to make up our team, so we want everyone who wants to take part, to join the team. Seriously. Yes, you.

If you’re ready to #RaceEverything and run your fastest mile, don’t hesitate, just join the team! Even if there are more than 26 people registered when you sign up, that’s okay – STILL SIGN UP. We’ll include as many NP Boston regulars as possible on the final team, and do our best to make sure everyone has a great time. If we do not have 26 individuals signed up, we won’t be able to field a complete team (and then we can’t compete!) so please sign up AND make sure you’ll be able to attend that day. We really don’t love having lots of sign ups but then a lot of back-outs too. Don’t be that kid! 😉 We’ll need to have an even split between males and females, but non-binary folks can be counted on either side.

Joev Dubach is coordinating the NP team, and he fronted the team registration fee, so if you end up running, we’ll ask you to then (not yet!) pay him back $15. If this is a hardship, see us (Emily Saul, Chris Capozzi, or Dana Bogan) and we can work out other arrangements – we won’t let finances to keep anyone from racing.

The race starts on Sunday, Aug 15th at 8:30am. So the full window of time for the event would be 8am (ish) to 11:30am (ish). Depending on when you run, you wouldn’t need to be in attendance for the entire race, but for planning purposes, you’d want to be available within that time frame.

To sign up, fill out https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/RaceGroup-956094?raceId=75237 and select “Join an Existing Relay Team”, then select “November Project”. You’ll be asked for a password, which is “AwwwYeah”. (That’s w x 3). You’ll also have to put in a guess for your mile time. Do your best to make an aggressive but accurate prediction, and we can use that information to help decide what order the racers will run.

And if you don’t end up racing, we still want to see you there cheering! Awww yeah!
