This morning’s bounce was inspired by an unfunny promo video made by the San Jose Sharks prior to their game in Winnipeg wherein they talked about how Winnipeg was their least favourite city to play in. Karma can be swift though, and they lost soundly to our beloved Jets. As a Winnipegger, I took great offence to those clowns taking jabs at our city. Paul Maurice had some great lines when asked about the video; (and I’m paraphrasing) ‘Cold? Yep, that happens in the winter, especially in Canada. Dark? Yep, that happens at night, everywhere…’ But then I like my humour like I like my cold weather; very dry.

Winnipeg is a great city, and we have a great tribe. We have embraced our status as a winter city, and there is no shortage of winter activities. I think it is pretty cool that we have The Forks at our disposal for our workouts; the variety keeps it fresh and it really is the most ‘instagrammable’ places to skate right now (one of their goals this year). We get to work out on rivers, on bridges, in fields… we don’t let the cold stop us. We get down to those temperatures where the Celsius and Fahrenheit start to line up (-40 is where they do equal the same). Sometimes, it’s so cold we don’t even bother bringing water bottles, they’ll freeze before we get to drink them. We get frosty beards and toques, and it’s hard to see sometimes who we are talking to with everything but our eyes covered from head to toe. And yet this tribe still shows up in strength.

After two weeks in a row of colder than -31 (badges earned) and still having a solid group, today’s workout felt like spring weather. We got a good sweat on, and hopefully had some fun doing it.

The Great Skate is coming. It’s in a few weeks, and everything is coming together nicely for it. Last year was truly a great day, and it’s looking to be the same this year. Go sign up and you’ll be ensured a bib and a little race kit the day of. Yes, it’s free. If you want brunch after, it’s $12 and it’s very yummy. Then stick around for the World Record attempt being organized by one of our tribe members, Karly Tardiff! Let’s help her get to 400 people skating in a conga line for 400 metres (I can’t wait to see how that looks).

Go to this link- Chain for Change and when you click Register, click Join a team and then join the November Project Winnipeg team! Let’s rock it. It’s going to be a day for the memory books.

Shout out to Scott Dennis for receiving the Shabooya award from Dez. The guy is fast, fit and above all else, friendly.

Alright, have a great Wednesday, my dudes.
