This photo says a lot about this morning. Let me give you a little insight into how this morning comes about and how we ended up with 200 balloons, lots of ribbon and a high level of “goof-troopery. (TM)”
A few days ago Kay came up with a good idea that involved three rings of a workout, a bunch of new exercises and just a tough, throw down of a workout. I stress good because the idea was really good. It was all set to be a tough workout that only a handful of us could get through, punctuated by a bunch of planks, allowing Kay ample opportunity to glance around, critiquing plank form.
You see, Viking Blood Bryson was out of town this week so Kay and I were on our own, adrift in a sea of opportunity with little real guidance. Kay, hit the ball out of the park with his 3Ring idea. What, might you ask, was my contribution (a contribution Kay willingly accepted) to the workout?

You betcha. Balloons. And ribbon. I’m not exactly sure where the idea came from or why Kay just said yes. BUT! Let me be very clear…when I first had the idea to use balloons today I had envisioned hundreds of helium filled balloons, bouncing all around Rash field giving a real 3ring circus vibe.
*Scientific note: Your breath is not helium. Your breath, being primarily CO2 and not helium…does not float.
Instead, we tied a whole bunch of balloons, filled with sweaty dry heaves to a chicken wire fence and called it a day. All in all, I’m calling this a huge success. Sometimes you swing for the fences, miss, swing again, and then ask the pitcher to lob you a big balloon.
Thanks to everyone that came out this morning and pushed hard through 30 minutes of work, 3 minutes of planks and 7 or so minutes of attempting to put your self portrait on a balloon. You’re all fantastic individuals and Kay and I couldn’t be more excited that you decided to spend your morning rolling with whatever we threw at you. And don’t worry, Bryson will be back next week and we can all go back to our regularly scheduled programming of ass kicking, whistle blowing and general morning shenanigans.
Announcements:
Next week we will be collecting sneakers to send to Houston. Looking for shoes that are used but in generally good condition.
Also, mark your calendars for September 23. NP will be hosting a cheer station at Patterson Park’s Mueveton event and cheering on the little tikes in a 5k. Later that day is 24 Hours of Booty, hosted at Hopkins’ Homewood Campus. Anyone interested can follow this link to participate or donate!
