I’m On A Beach!

Sometimes we fall into the trap of overdefending our city to people that don’t know it.

“At least it’s sunny in the winter.”  “It’s a dry cold.”  “There are way more restaurants than there used to be.”  “The drive to the mountains is a quick 3 hours.” Etc…

We act surprised when something is actually (for real) pretty fucking amazing in our city.  Like a beach.  There were news reporters, instagram selfies, newspaper columns, debates in city council and of course a NP workout… all because of a beach.  It’s like we all lost our bloody minds the same way we did when Kanye or Rihanna said the word, “Edmonton” (with proper pronounciation and everything) during their concerts and blew our minds because they actually knew the name of our city!  Edmonton is supposed to be the tough underdog, the fourth line grinder, the quiet hard working kid…  How are we supposed to be that with cool shit like a beach? And Rihanna concerts?!

I think it’s time we face a simple fact.  Our city is actually pretty amazing, even when it is stacked up to other places around the world.   We have incredible people, places and shit to do. Period.  The fact that we all collectively lose our shit when we discover something new and amazing about our home is actually a fantastic quality.  I’ll take people that are proud and excited about life in their hometown any day!

Soapbox done, thanks for showing up this morning.  Wednesday is NOT at Commonwealth because of GnR. Royal Glenora stairs with host us once again.
