commUNITY

I didn’t know more than three people at my first November Project workout.

And that’s likely the case with most, if not all, of us. The beauty of the movement is the way that it turns a group of strangers into a community.

It’s not guaranteed that people from November Project will be your best friends. It’s not guaranteed that you’ll find your soulmate there. It’s not guaranteed that you’ll find a second family for yourself at a workout. It’s not guaranteed that your weekends will be spent with people from Wednesday and Friday mornings.

But if you’re lucky enough to experience a life like that, you’ve got friends forever.

You’ve got friends who’ll run with you when you don’t want to be alone.

You’ve got friends who will cheer you on during your first – or thirty-fourth – race.

You’ve got friends who will call you to make sure you’re okay when you’re not at a workout.

You’ve got friends you’ll run into on the streets of the city you all love.

You’ve got friends for life.

I didn’t know more than three people at my first November Project workout, but now I’m hard-pressed to remember a day that I don’t see at least three people from the group.

These two-day-a-week workouts change strangers into friends. They change not-a-runner’s into weekend racers. They change cities into home. They put the “unity” in community.

Find your people. Love them hard.
