#raceeverything guest blog post by Myles Fennon

As we step into the week of one of the biggest races in New York we asked Captain Myles Fennon to write a blog post about how you can join the team.

Many of you have probably heard of New York Road Runner (NYRR), they’re the great folks who put on the NYC Marathon along with more than 50 other running related events throughout the year. You may also have heard stories of John and Paul, former NP_NYC leaders and NYRR alumni. Back when NP_NYC was still in it’s infancy, some of us would get together before races to take a picture. Soon enough, we realized that many of us were running unaffiliated, but most of us were racing in neon clad, spray painted shirts. So in 2015, team NP was born as a club within NYRR.

So – what does it mean to be a NYRR team? The simple answer is it’s not much different than any club league that you, your friends, or colleagues might play in. Within NYRR there are three divisions for club teams, Division A, B and C. Teams within each division compete against each other during the designated “Club Points Races,” throughout the year (twelve total). There are over 100 clubs within NYRR, each with its own unique personality. More club specific information can be found here: http://www.nyrr.org/charities-clubs-and-community/local-clubs

How do I go clubbing? If you run, or want to run in a NYRR race, team NP welcomes all athletes of all abilities. Since we kicked off in 2015, we’ve grown to be one of the largest clubs within NYRR (with currently 600+ registered runners from all over the country/world). If you’re interested, registration is simple. Log into: https://mynyrr.nyrr.org/ click on account settings, scroll down to
“Runner Profile,” and choose November Project from the dropdown menu.
Finally – a quick history of our success within NYRR. In our first year as an established team, we WON the Spirit Award! Additionally, our men and women’s teams continue to be ranked at the top of our division, with our women finishing in 3rd in 2015 and 2nd in 2016, and our men ending out 2015 in 5th place, and jumping up to 2nd place at the end of 2016.
