The Sunrise 6K this morning on our Pacific Beach Boardwalk was fucking awesome. The group was strong, fast, fun, and all things November Project.
The finish line was alt the way out at the end of Crystal Pier, hanging out over the seal-shaped surfers, while catching our breath with guls overhead. It was so classic San Diego it would make you puke and search for airfare deals at the exact same time.
Now, you could look at the racing awards at the end of the race and say that “the most important people” this morning were the ones who went fast. In a racing situation we can push for a new PR, happily run with friends to simply feel good, but let’s face it, those who cross the line fist in a race… are pretty fucking important. But we’re not going to talk about them. But don’t think I’ve gone soft and that I want to talk about all you slow characters either, nope, not you guys, not you guys OR the middle pack runners. None of the speed groups or how you finished will ever land you into The Most Important People group at NPSD.
The Most Important People are not those of us who have been NP’ing for years, they are not the people who keep us fresh by showing up for their first time (newbies)… oh on, The Most Important People at every single November Project workout, in every single one of the 43 tribes around the world are…
THOSE WHO BRING SOMEONE NEW. That’s right, fast or slow, OG or newbie, if you recruit someone new, you’re winning and you fall into a category of what I call “The Most Important People at NP.” Today I brought Chloe. She was awesome.
So, this week we have a chance to do our Wednesday routine and add to the group by bringing one new person, just one. In fact, don’t even call it recruiting, just call it joining The Most Important Group at NP for super selfish reasons. Join the group. I’m almost always in the group. That’s right, I crush it. I hope you do to. See you this Wednesday.
Balboa Park, Bea Evenson Fountain, 6:29AM, wear sunrise colors or newsprint or regular workout clothing or all recycled materials. Set your alarms, lay out your newsprint, see you soon.
Love,
BG
