Last night as Andrew and I were celebrating Christmas with family and chatting about the complex workout he had planned for this morning we thought it best to check what the might be temperature. Unlike Nadim, who chooses not to look at the forecast the night before, I always check so that I can lay my clothes out before I sleep, granting me those extra few precious minutes of shut eye before my alarm clock goes off. Much to our surprise we realized that we could be facing another -30 badge day, not something that “we” factored in when selecting the somewhat remote location for our Boxing Day workout.
I was definitely curious to see how many of you would show up on your holiday Monday, in -30-degree weather, to a dark, more-secluded-than-normal destination, and yet, like always the tribe did not let me down! You are all amazing. There doesn’t seem to be anything that will keep you away. I’m pretty certain that my late arrival for the run-all-together-to-the-workout group had Nadim a little giddy. I bet he had my “We Missed You” written in his head as he ran those 2.5 km to the Wolf Willow stairs and, while he greeted me warmly with a Happy Holiday hips-in hug, I suspect that there was a little disappointment that he wouldn’t get to publish that post this morning. We’re all still waiting to see which one of us becomes the first…any betters out there…Andrew, Nadim or me…??
To all of those badge earners today…congrats! You earned a reward that no Boxing Day sale can offer! To all of the veterans -30 badgers out there…congrats to you as well!! This tribe is truly #weatherproof. I hope you all took a moment at the top of each section of those stairs to take a look at the view…it was spectacular. While the paths were a little crowded, this Boxing Day experience wasn’t dependent on door crasher sales, long line-ups or parking lot madness, instead, it was encouraged by high 5s & unified by frosty faces and as always it was free, built on community and pretty much a perfect way to wrap up the holiday!
