SO HERE’S THE DEAL (LAX)

PR day was today and it was mad fun. People killed it, the sun was nice in some of the photos and there were some solid newbies. Seeing newbies always makes my heart warm and we’ll be letting you know about some ways that we’re going to embrace our virgin tribespeople in the near future. It was also super cold. Colder than it was in NY on Monday.

BUT, rather than entertain you all with anecdotes and inside jokes in order to motivate you all to live better lives, today’s blog is the more informational little brother of my post from a few weeks ago entitled “The Inevitability of Change”. I wasn’t lying then about the news I dropped then and here’s the proof.

It’s time. We’re packing up camp, we’re hitting the trail, we’re embracing the nomadic roots of our species and moving on to greener pastures. While the Hollywood Bowl has been synonymous with #np_lax for some time now, we are most keenly aware of our reputation as parking stealing hangers-on who, according to the powers that be at Los Angeles’ most iconic music venue, could also potentially have ties to terrorist organizations. I wish I was lying but one of the main reasons they wont let us in anymore is because they believe it’s a security threat to have a bunch of random people crowding one of the cities most vulnerable locations for scary-ass shit to go down. I hate that reason, I hate that it’s kind of valid and I would hate even more if, by some crazy chance, something did go down. SO, onward we go.

THIS IS THE NEW PLAN

STARTING IN 2017: Every month, for the foreseeable future, our tribe will have a new Wednesday location. We will be at that location every Wednesday all month EXCEPT PR DAY, which we will still use the B Lot at the Bowl for. It’s a good course and being there once a month ain’t so bad. It will be a fun way for everyone to feel like there’s some normalcy. That means that if there are 4 Wednesdays in January (there are) 3 of them will be at our January location (see the next sentence) and the last will be at the B-Lot of the Hollywood Bowl. January’s location is going to be the Old LA Zoo in Griffith Park.

What that means for Friday’s is this: since our Wednesdays will not always be so wonderfully central as The Bowl is, Fridays for a given month will lean away from the part of town that our Wednesday spot is at and toward other parts of town so that people can make it to workouts as regularly as possible. SO, if we are using Grand Park Downtown, we will have more Fridays on the West side that month since Downtown is pretty far east.

This is a plan that no other tribe works with (to our knowledge). However, it is a plan built from ideas that other tribes use regularly. New York has a regular Wednesday location but their PR day is at another spot. San Diego uses the same Monday location for a full month.

We know this is weird and we know this might mean a lot of complicated things for a lot of you since LA can be a transportation nightmare but we’ve made this plan in an attempt to keep as many of you as happy as we can. It may not be perfect but it will help us do a lot of important work to find a new home. And hey, maybe we’ll find we like this nomadic thing. Maybe it’s a great way to get into more people’s neighborhoods on a more regular basis so they can feel like they’re a part of what we’re doing. Maybe we’ll be like ‘damn! this spot is awesome and it has everything I’ve ever dreamed of!’ and we’ll never leave again. Steve and I don’t know the answers but we do know that we have an awesome tribe full of fabulous and warm-hearted people who have been adaptable AF as it is and who are ferocious pioneers setting out for uncharted territory in the urban sprawl that is LA.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that we’ve got this. If there’s another thing I know, it’s that we’re going to find something great in changing it up. And if by some miracle I know a whopping three things, the third is that this tribe is invested in each other, invested in this city and ready to take on a new challenge with true excitement.

We’re always open to feedback so don’t hesitate to reach out. We love you all and can’t wait to see where this new thing takes us, literally and figuratively.

Do great LA.
