Prior to the 5:30 workout at Lincoln, a car pulled up to our “bag check” area. Out stepped AE, an NP_DC regular with another woman I didn’t recognize. Moments later, AE introduced me to her mom, Debbie, who’s in her late 70s.
Debbie came to NP. Debbie helped AE hold down the “stuff” area at 5:30. She observed the 6:30 workout. She took selfies with members afterward. NP is for everyone. Bring your mom.
At the end of the 6:30 workout, I came upon Karen, a cousin of NP regular Crespo. Karen is visiting from Chile. Just one workout in, she told me we’ve gotta bring NP to South America. YES! NP is for world travelers. Have you heard of #WorldTakeover?
Speaking of that, we had two visitors from the Iceland tribe at Lincoln. If you don’t know, Iceland is a pretty badass place (everyone visits there for a reason), and so, naturally, they’re our “sister tribe.” We’re gonna do a bunch of cool things with Iceland in the very near future. STAY TUNED.
What Debbie, Karen and our Icelandic visitors showed, once again, Wednesday is that “new people” can and should come from anywhere to experience what we know is the best way to start a day in DC. There’s no red tape. There’s no pressure or expectations. Just guaranteed fun, weirdness and community. So bring your mom. Bring your cousin. Bring your friend visiting from across the world. Don’t let having company in town keep you away.
Chances are THAT person will go back to wherever they are and A) If it’s in the U.S. or Canada, find a tribe near them; or B) If it’s somewhere like Chile, start the talk about building something back home.
