On this Labor Day, go ahead and labor those tear ducts a little and enjoy an ever-so sweet story from our dear friend and long-time NP core Laura K. She has grown in her schooling, career, friend cohort, speed, and involvement since joining the tribe and we can’t imagine a workout without her smiling face. So, without further ado, PR Day confessions from a Laura K:
I have a confession to make. Last night, I tried to talk myself out of going to PR Day. I ended up staying out later than expected, and I’ve been feeling really tired all week. I justified the idea, thinking “Since I’m not getting much sleep tonight, I won’t beat my PR” and “I have 5 sessions in the morning, I need to have enough energy to treat my clients!”
But alas, I set out my workout clothes “just in case.” And at 4:50 AM, when my alarm started beeping in the pitch black, I got out of bed and made my way to Rash Field. I even forgot my water bottle (major mistake in this summer heat!) and ran to 7-Eleven to buy some cold agua, so I couldn’t use that as an excuse.
After the workout, I started reflecting upon my choice. What does it mean to talk yourself out of something that you know makes you a stronger, happier, and better person? What does it mean to #JustShowUp when your mind tells you not to?
Last Wednesday, when I walked into work with a smile on my face and a cheerful “Good morning!” people noticed. Several co-workers commented, “You seem really happy today” and “Started your day off on the right foot?”
Instead, I gave and received tons of sweaty hugs and joked with new friends – who in any other settings would be considered complete strangers! I even met the (alleged) Rock Paper Scissors champion of the world and had the pleasure of seeing 20 close friends before 6:30 in the morning! And that’s what November Project is all about – challenging yourself to set excuses aside, to do your best and to work your hardest, with a supportive network of friends cheering you on each step of the way.
