All Decked Out (IND)

Summertime in the I-N-D…and we welcomed the solstice with a good, ole fashioned deck workout.  The early group stayed completely dry, while the 6:15ers got a little drizzle in their biz nizzles.  The always popular group workout is as follows:

  • Teams of 5 each start at separate stations at different corners of the war memorial.
  • Each station has a deck of cards and those at the station keep flipping the cards and doing the corresponding workouts until their team member from the previous station comes and relieves them.
    • Spades = Burpees
    • Clubs = Low-five Push-ups
    • Diamonds = Squats
    • Hearts = Leg Raises
  • How many depends on the number on the card. Flip and repeat until you see the sweet, smiling face of your team member to come tap you out and then it’s on to the next station.

But, don’t worry; running was involved as between stations there were either stairs or a nice bear crawl to get you from one to the next.

The Notes:

  • I love this workout because there is a lot of fun interaction between station mates. Also some not-so-fun interaction when you are the card flipper and flip several high value burpee cards in a row.  You go from hero to zero pretty quickly.  It’s like an episode of Maury Povich.
  • With storms forecasted all day (but not supposed to start until after 9am. Thanks a lot weather.com…dick), it started to rain RIGHT during the bounce.  As a result, I got worried about the severity of what was about to unleash, got flustered, and fucked the bounce up.  Might have been the worst moment of my life as it reminded me of my days as an aspiring Olympic gymnast.
  • It was with open arms and the Sheraton’s “open room” policy that we welcomed Laura McCloskey from NP Leadership to audit today’s workout. Laura’s inaugural visit to the Circle City started by being given an already occupied room when she arrived at midnight.  Glad to know we can make a good first impression.  At least we are generous with the avocados.

Next week is a DOOZIE.  We have a “Summer Beach Party/Luau” themed Race Day which will be followed up by Yearbook Photos!  We are also tagging.  Pretty much everything you could ever hope for on a Wednesday morning prior to 7am so you need to be there.

Stay Dry,

  • Shaw
