Let’s Go Blue Jays (YYZ)

Ok so maybe I dropped the ball on Wednesday. So now I’m double-blogging. Wednesday and Friday. I’m also almost certainly rambling as a result of sleep deprivation, but that’s just a standard Friday evening. IMG_3414

We’ll start with Wednesday. We hit the new stairs by the Spadina bridge that I’ve been [figuratively] drooling over since they opened a few weeks ago. They’re not quite as nice to run as those at Casa Loma, but there are far fewer pedestrians, and there is a nice hill immediately opposite that we can run too. So we did. We’ve not come up with a name for that workout yet, but we will: it will evolve, but the basic format worked out nicely. Sprint the stairs, squats at the top, down and up the nice steep hill opposite. Burpees, round and down, and back to the stairs. Either we didn’t make enough noise, or the homeless guy sleeping under the bridge just plain ignored us. Maybe next time we’ll take him breakfast. Wednesday was arguably the first cool (read: cold) morning we’ve faced as a tribe, and we nailed it. 23 of you got out there and threw it down with us. We had multiple visitors this week – Jason came by from NP Indy, and Dustin of Operation Monarch fame was also in town. Intervals on the Tuesday night, NP workout Wednesday morning followed by a six hour drive. That guy is a machine!

And so on to Friday morning. We know that realistically we need to grow a lot more before we can justify a second workout, and that the start of cooler weather is probably not the best of times to be adding a day anyway, but we really enjoy your company. You’re beautiful people, and we love that you love this. Plus, any excuse to do something a bit different. That’s why, with inspiration from NP Baltimore’s BaltiTour, we decided to do Tour-onto. For the next few Fridays, we’ll do a different workout at a different location. Because we can. There are so many spots in this city that we can go to, it seems rude not to.

This morning was the first of these. Anyone who has been to the Rogers Centre (I’ll add in the alternate name of SkyDome for Ryan) will know that there’s a fair few stairs there. Perfect location. Basically like the November Project equivalent of a red rag to a bull. So we did went there. It was cold. It was dark. It was hard to tell who was who from a distance. But it was awesome. There’s so much potential for different workouts there. Today was stair sprints, push ups, run across the bridge, down the steps, back up the ramp and over the bridge, more push ups, down the stairs to do some squat jumps with tucks. We earned our weekend.

Jokes aside, there were 15 of us out there, almost half of whom were joining us for the very first time. Saying that is slightly misleading, since there were two or three people from the Edmonton tribe and Iain from SF. Either way, I’m seriously proud. It’s awesome watching this tribe evolve, seeing new faces not only come out once, but come back again and again. Watching people push themselves each week, and get faster and stronger as a result. Maybe it’s cliché to say it, but this shit is good!

Oh, and did I mention we had a wheelbarrow race as a ‘nice warm down’? That’s going into a proper workout next time.

WEDNESDAY – 6:29am, at the top of Baldwin Steps. It’s PR Day, and we’ll be tagging!

FRIDAY – 6:25am somewhere. Stay tuned to our Instagram and/or Facebook for the announcement.

Also, there’s a workout tracker on the November Project website. Sign up, drop a verbal, and track the awesome shit that you do with us! We’re going to start mentioning it a bit more, especially since it’s PR Day on Wednesday…
