To start, let’s give a shoutout to the 20 volunteers who helped give everyone some crisp new grassroots gear. This includes the generous people who donated paint supplies over the last month. In the 4 years that we’ve been doing this, I don’t think we’ve ever had a morning where we were on track to finish tagging all shirts in time. Not only that, overall tag-crispness was nearly flawless. Now that we all have some fresh Grassroots Gear, we need to show it off more.
Got some tags from other cities? Show it off
Got a tag with the upside down stamp below? Show it off
Got a rainbow tag? Show it off
Got an original cardboard stencil with actual leaf tag? Show it off
The best thing about grassroots gear, is that when you see someone wearing it, you immediately know you have a friend. As you know, grassroots gear is earned. The only way to get it is by showing up. So when you see someone wearing it, you know they’ve been to November Project.
Running in a race? That’s the perfect time to show off your grassroots gear. Why? Well, not only are you letting them know that you’re badass, they know you’ll be encouraging, and in a race, everyone could use a bit more encouragement and positivity. It also makes it really easy for people cheering to find you. While they’re cheering their lungs out at the people in front of them, they’ll spot that tag out of the corner of their eyes and give you as much energy as they have to help you crush that race. And while we cheer for everyone, you know that people wearing grassroots gear always get louder cheers. Why wouldn’t you want louder cheers?
You don’t just see people wearing grassroots gear out when running. You see them at the farmers’ market on the weekends. And, my favourite, at the airport… Because at the airport, it’s always an unexpected sighting to see someone in grassroots gear. And everyone wishes they had a few familiar faces around when they’re at an airport.
You can spot the NP tag a kilometre away. It’s like you’re both part of some exclusive club that no one knows about… except it’s not exclusive. And even if you don’t say a word to each other, you’ll both notice it.
Every tribe (except Boston since they’re the OGs) has their own unique tag which lets everyone know where they’re from. I get so hyped when I see tags from other cities. It’s probably the easiest conversation starter too.
I hope to see you all in your grassroots gear this weekend.
