Forged by His Experiences, Meet Rob (YEG)

It’s pretty cool that I get to intro Rob here, as someone I’ve known my whole life it’s easy to forget that not everyone knows his story.  For me, I met Rob through a mutual friend in our homeroom class back in Grade 5 at Keenooshayo Elementary, at the time I didn’t realize it but I would be meeting my best friend for the first time.  I like to think that Rob and I have been through everything together, the thick and thin, travels around the world, and slowly becoming adults.  I like to say I’ve seen Rob grow to become this incredible person that everyone knows but that would be a lie.  He’s always been this way.  You can see it in the way his family raised him – his caring, compassion, & altruistic nature from his mother.  The love of exploration, travel (and fashion style) from his brother, his playfulness and competitive nature from his sister.  Rob showcases all this and more, each and every day.  I love him like an older brother – one who’s been responsible for some of the highs in my life, some of the lows, and a lot of the in-between.  And he remains the person that I think I want to be able to be one day.  When I decide to grow up.  So please Meet Rob. read more

Meet Katie (YEG)

Monday: Sunrise 6k – Meet at the corner of 105th Street and River Valley Road.

I can’t think of anyone who can better embodies the latin phrase for day carpets, Carpe Diem. I’ve seen her put her hand up without hesitation for absolutely every adventure she can find. You’ve likely seen her big smile, or heard her funny accent at our workouts. And if you somehow haven’t, you can meet her through her words as she goes deep into why she shows up. Ladies, gentlemen and barking dogs, please meet Katie. read more

Grateful for NP because…(YEG)

Next weekend Sarah will be hitting the streets of Vancouver to run her first half marathon. I’m sure that if you’d asked her a year ago if she would be running even 10km she would have politely said you were crazy. A chance meeting at a conference in Banff paired with a commitment made to her sister brought Sarah to November Project for the first time. Since then she’s been involved in more than one fitness community, spreading her positivity, encouragement, and joy to everyone she comes in contact with. Here’s what November Project means to Sarah… read more

What You Expect When You #JustShowUp  (YYZ)

A couple of weeks ago we featured a post from Kate. Today Valeska, the other side of that dynamic duo, shares her story, and talks about what you should expect when you #justshowup for the first time:

“– #JustShowUp at 6:29 at the Baldwin Steps on Wednesday mornings

My first time at NP I was a little nervous. It had taken me a while to actually go. I followed them on Instagram, but was always a little too intimidated to attend the workout. Thinking back on this it was really kind of silly, but everyone gets a little nervous sometimes and NP gets that, and that brings us to the next point. read more

High 5s & Sequined Hats (YEG)

Some quick announcements before you meet Spencer…

#justshowup Bounce starts 6AM sharp!

Monday – Centennial Plaza at the Federal Building

Wednesday – Commonwealth Stadium Gate 2 (we need to close the doors at 6 so please be there on time)

Friday – Walterdale Hill

You may know him as the guy with the shiny hat or the crazy outfits. We love Spencer because he is always one of the first tribe members to dive, head first into whatever we are doing. You also have probably given him a high five while running up and down Walterdale Hill. He oozes positivity and if you are lucky to have a real one-on-one interaction with him, you can’t help but like him. He’s a former positivity award winner, and he’s here to share a story with you. Meet Spencer. read more

The Right Dose: a guest blog by Caleb Daniloff

Particularly on a day when we wore backpacks in the stadium, in order to make us stronger and faster for PRday (next week!) it’s easy to see the symbolism of the guest blog today.  That when looking around the stadium and seeing all the different shaped backpacks, you almost can’t help thinking about the burdens we all carry (most of us silently), and that moving forward together makes the load a little easier to carry.  Today we settle in for a guest blog from our dear friend Caleb Daniloff, author of just about everything published about November Project that we give a damn about.  He’s got an interesting perspective to share, and we’re glad he’s here to share it. read more

A Love Letter to NP YYZ

Next in our current series of guest bloggers is Kate McDonnell with a few words on what drives her to just show up, week after week.

“I’ve been coming to November Project Toronto for a year. That’s one year of getting up before the sun, taking a bus, to a train, to another train so I can run up and down stairs with a bunch of sweaty strangers. When I tell this to people, they think I’m insane. We’ve all dealt with that reaction, when trying to explain our feelings for a group of people who love (read: love to hate) burpees, who work out in the rain, the cold and the staggering humidity, willingly. What I can never seem to express, and what I’ll attempt to capture here is how much our tribe, and this whole NP movement means to me and why despite all the excuses we have to stay in bed don’t apply to Wednesday mornings. read more

Meet Keira (YEG)

Her smile is electric, her energy contagious – this November Project Canada tribe member wakes up at the crack of dawn while most of her classmates are still sleeping soundly. Sweating with her parents, auntie & uncle, making new friends, and encouraging tribe throughout the workout, Keira is a positive, strong, beautiful, compassionate, cheerful 11-year-old who embodies everything that November Project stands for. The future of the NP movement is in great hands with young leaders like Keira at the helm! read more

Gotta Give the Tribe a Hand (when a finger won’t do) (GUEST BLOG)

What happens at NP doesn’t always stay at NP

As some of you may or may not have heard by now, I’m kind of a big deal. I went from someone who some people knew, to a girl who almost EVERYONE in the Chicago tribe knew overnight.

Let me back up. Just over a week ago, on Saturday night, many of us shared the wonderfully planned and incredibly fun night that was: November Project Prom. Ladies and Gents that you rarely see in public not in workout clothes got dressed to the nines, some with dates, and rolled up to a taco pub to get weird with the weirdest people around. We were dancing the night away, taking photos, eating nachos, and drinking all the sangria and margaritas we could get our hands on. read more
