This is your tribe! #Justshowup because we are so glad you are here and we love the shit out of you!
Blogs from the other NP Malaysia co-leaders Ing and Harry have given you their perspective of November Project and what it means to them and this city. Initially, I wasn’t going to three-peat with a “What November Project means to me” blog but something happened recently that challenged my believe and impression of November Project. As the co leader of a new tribe, I needed to re-affirm this to my immediate community.read more
2nd August marked the 2nd PR for November Project Malaysia. Due to some confusion in counting during our first PR (suicide uphill between the lamp posts), we have decided to simplify the loops by doing the full hill, which are “A side” of the hill down and up about 1km and “B side” side of the hill down and up about 800 m. The PR was set to complete 3 loops (A+B side) within 30 mins. This make life easy as we eliminated the counting post part.read more
That feeling is pride. And we’ve been having a lot of it lately.
Being a fairly new tribe, a #traverbal is an exciting word to us. So when our homegrown girl Davina and expat Natalie who only got to know of NP because of Miri went to London this week, we were beyond ecstatic and yes, there’s the word… proud. Proud like papa and mama bears sending their NP children to the world. Proud because we already know they would be welcomed like family even before the bounce. Proud our seahorse tag made it out to a tribe in another city.read more
We have come a long ways, from nodders to shakers to hi5’ers…and now we hug!
Being a first time father about 2 years ago, I really wasn’t sure what the full responsibilities entailed. I had equal parts of excitement as well as fear but the only way I knew how to deal with things was head on (Not like there were any other options here). And in this 24 months, I have seen and experienced change beyond my 40 (fine 41) years of existence.THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME EVER AGAIN!!!read more
I first heard of November Project couple of years back when I first joined the local #freefitness community aka MYYFITNESSFEAT led by Ridley. He shared the inspiration on how we could pledge to become part of the NP tribe one day. Things wasn’t getting heated at that point of time until November 2016. The topic was brought up again for discussion among the team and we received lots of positive feedback. So I thought, “WHY NOT TO GIVE IT A SHOT?!”read more
So this week, the Malaysian tribe had our first PR day and boy, was it a success! We hit our elusive 60 and welcomed the most newbies in one single workout. Great job to the tribe for hyping up PR day and brought their friends to experience the joy of November Project.
Because of the nature of our workout location (it is a hill with slopes down each end), we had to come up with a simple way to measure PR and make sure it is still a killer workout. Hence, the co-leaders decided to make it a suicide runs and count PR by the furthest lamp post the tribe can reach before the clock hits 35 minutes.read more
Every Wednesday before this has been preparation for PR day, now, the true test.
This Wednesday, we will be introducing PR day to the November Project Malaysia tribe.
Many of those already involved with November Project is aware of the mixed feelings that comes with the mention of the word “PR day”. You will either be on the “I love it” side or the “I hate it” side, there is no in between but it is as big a part of NP culture as the bounce, the hugs, the #fuckyeahs (woo yeah respectfully to the Worcester tribe). It has been referred to as a friend, a foe, a necessary evil, the core of my existence, a nemesis, judgment day and the list goes on. The beauty of this for us at November Project Malaysia is that we are all PR day virgins. First timers heading into this with excitement, fear, nervousness, confidence, anxiety or a simple “what the fuck is it?” because many of us don’t know what PR day means and what is in store for us. Let’s focus on all the good this Wednesday will bring; we get to all lose our PR virginity together, we will all PR and the first Wednesday of the month will never be the same again. By 6:00AM on the 5th of July, every November Project Malaysia tribe member will get to have their own nickname for PR day.read more
I first met Kendary in 2005, he is a subject matter expert for SBM in our region by then. To me, he is a quiet person but very knowledgeable in his profession. He is also my personal investment fund and retirement scheme adviser. I invited him to our NP_Pledge workout at the beginning of February 2017, since then he has become the warrior for Wednesday morning hills.read more
… like have you even heard of Miri before this? Probably not.
When Ridley first proposed the idea to pledge for NP, I was excited and ecstatic to be on board… until I heard we have to add in an additional workout day and it has to be and MUST be held in the early morning before the crack of dawn. What? I’m already not getting enough sleep as it is. I am barely a morning person, grouchy and dazed before a good bowl of mee kolok – a typical noodle breakfast in Sarawak, the state of Miri – and now I have to run hills and do burpees? What, uhm… no thanks, let’s reconsider this.read more
