A word in favor of NPDC Fridays … and Wednesdays and Mondays

I had a hunch that most NPDC community members first joined November Project at a Friday workout. The locations rotate around the city, the workouts are usually a bit less serious, and Fridays are typically more flexible work days so the idea of plans at 6:30am would be less intimidating. I felt my logic was sound and I was ready to write a whole blog about Fridays, but I decided to put the question to the group first. read more

Celebrating our latest Positivity Award winner: Katie Blanchard! (DC)

Katie received the PA back in November (maybe the best month to receive the November Project PA), but it has been a busy couple of months. We promise it was worth the wait! When we awarded her the PA we had to go on little field trip after the workout because Katie was volunteering at coat check! The PA doesn’t always go to the loudest members, it goes to those members who show up for others and help make our community a better place. If you see Katie this month ask her not to leave DC, because we will miss her! read more

How I found November Project and why I keep showing up (DC)

Many people find November Project through the internet or social media, even more find it through word of mouth or friends of friends. My intro was less typical: I read about NP in a book. Not THE November Project book (though I highly recommend reading that if you want to learn more about how this wild thing got started) or any book related to running really.

It was a book about how to build a fulfilling, connection driven life by approaching every day activities with more intention, commitment and purpose. The book covered a myriad of topics, but here’s my quick (biased) summary of the section about exercise which referenced NP: Why force yourself to go to a gym that you don’t like, that costs money you don’t want to spend, to do exercises that aren’t fun, when you could do silly workouts in the fresh air with other awesome people at the low, low price of absolutely free?
