Ahmaud Arbery

Today marks three years since three white men murdered Ahmaud Arbery while he was out on a run. A racially motivated hate crime took years of future running and living from Maud, a 25-year-old Black man in New Brunswick, Georgia.

We pause. We sit. We reflect.

Maud’s murder sparked a nationwide discussion about the safety, or lack thereof, for BIPOC runners. As more people learned the details of this atrocious killing and lack of justice, they engaged in the hashtag #RunForMaud to show their solidarity, to bring awareness, and work for justice. read more

It all started with a kid who grew up playing outside. Between their home on Long Island and annual family trips to the Poconos in Pennsylvania, Jas Maisonet (they/them) developed a love of nature. But it wasn’t until a post-graduation camping trip to Yosemite National Park – a fully immersive, week-long experience with a friend – that Jas fully realized how deep their connection to nature was and their sense of belonging outdoors was awakened. read more

Black Girls Run!

There’s long been a misconception in the United States that Black women don’t run. In 2009, Black Girls RUN! was formed to correct that narrative.

Created to combat the health diseases that disproportionately affect Black women, Black Girls RUN! sets out to create an encouraging environment where all women feel empowered to move. BGR! Sets out to make fitness and healthy living a priority lifestyle for Black women, to be a MOVEment that makes their community healthier on the pavement through the power of running. BGR! Is shifting the paradigm that their community is sedentary and unhealthy through their local running chapters and increasing representation of Black women at running events across the country. Through representation, BGR! encourages more women and children to join their MOVEment. read more

We Off The Couch

When Anthony “Rock” Clary, a former collegiate football player, experienced a pre-diabetic scare in 2014 he started running as a way to manage his mental and physical health. In 2019 Rock realized that the joy he was experiencing running was something that he wanted to share: he enlisted the help of his wife, Tara, a former collegiate Track and Cross Country athlete, and invited members of their Southside Richmond, VA community to join the runs. Rock and Tara realized that sports and running helped them gain confidence and improve their wellness, so they set out to provide the same opportunities to folks in their neighborhood. As a result, We Off The Couch (WOTC), a non-profit that focuses on wellness, body positivity, camaraderie, fitness, and fun, was born. read more

Revisiting November Project Community Agreements

The November Project Co-Leaders established Community Agreements in 2019 as a code of conduct for our community. Last week, I blocked two accounts for failure to uphold the Community Agreements. The Board of Directors is aware of this action and supports the decision.

I have attempted in the past to Call In the owners of those accounts to engage in thoughtful discussion. Our attempts didn’t yield any results, which led to the blocking of those two accounts to prevent further hurt to the wider November Project community. read more

In order to help Robert’s family in this next stage of their lives, we are raising immediate funds to assist with the travel and additional costs to reunite Robert with his family. NPSUMMIT10 Travel Grant

UPDATE – August 10, 2022.
A few months ago, we launched a campaign to offer financial assistance to November Project members from around the world to attend NPSUMMIT. We received a dozen applications and fundraised a few hundred dollars towards our $4500 goal to bring up to 3 members to Philadelphia. After the tragic passing of NP Malaysia Co-leader, Robert Ling, we pivoted fundraising efforts in order to support his family and to cover the cost of his repatriation. With 6 weeks to go before the event, the Committee in charge of the financial assistance program composed of Co-leaders and members has decided to halt the outreach until the end of the year and focus their efforts on the 2023 Summit. read more

Reaction To Brogan’s Resignation and The Next Steps

With Brogan’s resignation, many folks within November Project may be wondering how this news will impact them, their Iocal communities, and the organization as a whole.

While Brogan’s vision and energy were instrumental in building NP into an organization that spans across 50+ locations, the work that we’ve done in the last few years as a community has been invaluable in setting ourselves up for growth. November Project is as strong as it’s ever been and will continue to grow and evolve because of the involvement of its members, leadership, and dedication of its Co-leaders, generous contribution and guidance of the Board of Directors, and tremendous support of our sponsors. read more
