Today was a good old fashioned “adult recess” Monday workout, complete with playground time and a silly whisper bounce. (Side note: I love whisper bounces – it’s so ridiculous to be both shouting “blast off” and at the same time whispering so you don’t bother the nearby residents. It’s pure NP silliness and I’m a huge fan)
Alright friends, I have to apologize. Today probably won’t be my best blog. I promised Rob this morning that I’d write the blog as I expected to have a bit of free time this evening. My day ended up being a bit busier than planned though, so here I am writing this pretty late in the evening. I did have a good topic planned for today, but I’m going to set that one aside until I have a bit more time to write.
So, with that in mind, I’m instead going to share a story about getting sleep:
As you may or may not already know, up until about a year-and-a-half ago, I was going to law school while also working at my engineering job, helping with my family’s little chocolate business, and trying to keep up a fitness routine and a few extra-curricular activities. That was WAY too much on my plate, and I hope to never, ever be that busy again.
For my three years of school, I was in bed for 4-5 hours per night on week nights and for a long time, I wore this as a badge of honour. I guess I thought I was tough. However, in retrospect, it was extremely unhealthy and a dumb choice. Please never do that. Take it from someone who has been there: there’s a lot of physical and mental health consequences that come from not going to bed. I’ve learned it’s not something to be proud of and I now try really hard to get a reasonable amount of sleep.
When I agreed to take on this NP co-leader role, one of my main concerns was making sure I still get enough sleep and don’t fall back into that bad habit of short nights. Surprisingly, being a co-leader has actually helped me get more sleep so far. Knowing I have to be up for workouts at 6am and the fear of accidentally sleeping in has led me to ensure I get to bed at a reasonable time. I’m thankful for this!
I tell you all of this because it’s why I’m putting together a quick blog tonight, instead of a longer, fancier one (well actually, this one is actually kinda long, but I promise it was quick). I’m making this one quick to get to bed at a more reasonable time. I’d encourage anyone to do the same and prioritize your sleep!
Have a good night, friends!
Lift each other up,
Eric
