This morning was another great morning of sunshine and sweat, enjoying the views and the grind of the stairs at TD Place. Did you feel like the 31 mins passed more quickly today with an increased stair to exercises ratio? Or did you find yourself lingering at the bottoms a little longer as time went by? Either way, we are so proud of you for showing up each week, and hope you entered your day filled with endorphins!
If you’ve attended the last few workouts, you will have heard mention of Yearbook Photos taking place next week! Why Yearbook Photos? Well, this is a November Project tradition that has been taking place for many years in all of the NP locations around the world. It is a way to get to know each other (if you tag your photo then it can be a way for other people to jog their memories when trying to learn names). It’s also a really fun way to check out other NP cities, and all the creative ideas they have. Official Global Yearbook Photo release day is July 6th, remember that date.
This year we have chosen the theme of Summer Blockbusters for our photos. Not only is this a great excuse to bust out your aviator sunglasses and superhero costumes, but there are some parallels here. Summer Blockbusters attract people in droves to the movie theatres. Summer NP YOW workouts attract people in (smaller) droves to the TD Place stairs. Summer Blockbusters can make you laugh, they can make you feel scared, but they can also make you cheer for the Hero, or the Unlikely Hero. We think NP can make you experience all of those things as well! Though we hope that the stadium stairs are less frightening than a T-Rex or Voldemort.
If you’re drawing a blank on some examples of Summer Blockbusters, here are a few of the top grossing summer films since the term was coined after the release of Jaws in 1975:
1977 Star Wars (and many other Star Wars films went on to be top Summer hits)
1981 Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (we know someone must of a hat like Indy in the back of their closet)
1982 ET (for the dog owners – bring your bike, make a basket for your pup in the front, and you can be Elliot – no flying required)
1986 Top Gun (throw on some Aviator sunglasses)
1991 Terminator 2: Judgement Day (another sunglasses and leather jacket combo – no weapons please!)
1993 Jurassic Park (many iconic looks in this one, or be one of the dinos)
1994 The Lion King (might be warm for a Lion look, but we can dig it)
2002 Spiderman (or Peter Parker if you prefer)
2006 and 2007 Pirates of the Caribbean movies (who doesn’t want to dress up as a pirate?!)
2008 The Dark Knight (Batman, Joker, pick a side)
2011 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, pt 2 (they weren’t even in Hogwarts robes in this one…carry a wand, and you’ll pass)
2014 Transformers: Age of Extinction (this would be a challenge, but we’d love to see it)
2019 Avengers: End Game (pick a superhero, any superhero)
If you prefer to stay in present times here are a few 2022 releases to inspire you: Thor: Love and Thunder, Jurassic World Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Lightyear, Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis.
Now that we’ve hopefully helped inspire you, please join us by the Aberdeen Pavilion for Yearbook Photo day on Wednesday June 22nd at 6:29am. Hopefully your outfit will be one you can still move in. There may not be stairs involved, but there WILL be a workout!! 😉 Also, of course, costumes/props are totally optional, so no pressure! We are always glad to see you show up.
Have a wonderful week, YOWzers.
Sole-fully,
Becca & Rebecca
