Five years ago yesterday November Project Ottawa had our first workout as an official “November Project” group! It was a beautiful day, not unlike today, the sun was shining, and a group of happy soles came together for 31 mins of free fitness. It wasn’t all that different from the week before it, except now we had three things – a new name (previously we were known as Work It YOW), the official November Project stencils to tag our shirts with, and the Positivity Award. Today, it was my honour to present the PA to Barbara who has been part of our community for several years now, and who always brings an open mind and open heart to all that she does. She did a wonderful job leading us in a fun and creative birthday party workout this morning!
Five years can seem like not much (for example: a 5 year old is still a little kid), but it can also feel like a long time. In 5 years you can complete high school. In 5 years you can walk around the world two and a half times. In 5 years you can make a whole new group of friends, and complete 260 Wednesday morning workouts…or probably about 250 in my case. Over the next 5 years there will be another 260 opportunities for you to come out on a Wednesday morning and join us!
Now, time for a fun announcement! In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, we will be having a social on Wednesday, May 25th at 7pm. We will start with a run in solidarity with the #ChinatownRunners group, in support of the Soar Over Hate organization. Entering their contest is optional, but if you’d like a chance at some prizes, here are all the details.
Our social will begin and end at Hangout (839 Somerset W), with options for 5K and 3K run/walk in and around Chinatown. We encourage you to take this route at a fun pace, and use it as an easy shake out before Ottawa Race Weekend! There are also lots of nice murals and artwork for us to enjoy along the way.
After the run, we welcome you to stay for a bubble tea, coffee, smoothie, milkshake etc, and to hangout at Hangout. There are board games available to play, and we will bring art supplies so we can create some Cheer Signs for race weekend! All are welcome, whether you’re able to join us for just the run, just the hangout, or both!
Have a wonderful week, YOWzers.
Sole-fully,
Becca & Rebecca
