In the last six months our return to in-person workouts, the introduction of three new co-leaders, and the welcoming of many new faces has brought a lot of change to November Project NYC.
At the same time we are reacquainting ourselves with the fundamentals of what NP means to us individually and to our city, we also wanted to seize the opportunity for something big. Fun. Challenging. Enter #NP_NYC Olympic Week (like a “hell week” but, ya know, more cheerful sounding). We hate to fuel anyone’s FIMO but…it was really flippin’ fun so here’s a small recap of our week:
Monday: Track & Field

First, we took our Olympic Oath in Morningside Park by reciting the Community Agreements during the bounce. Then, an opening ceremony relay kicked off the day’s events, which included long jump, javelin, bicycles, and hurdles.
Tuesday: Ball Sports

At our old haunt, Carl Schurz Park, we worked on our jump shots, soccer headers, volleyball digs, lining up our putts, and executing some fancy tennis footwork. Our petition with the IOC to admit Dodgeball into the 2024 Olympics is pending.
Wednesday: Winter Olympics

It might be a steamy summer in New York, but this day at Bethesda Terrace was super chill. Full of speed skaters, mogul jumps, figure skating drills, luge holds, the world’s longest bobsleigh twist and – of course – curling. We’re working on our form.
Thursday: Sports Medley

A smorgasbord of sports that stand on their own brought us to Washington Square Park. Fencing, boxing, surfing, kayaking, skateboarding and some spicy rhythmic gymnastics had us in the home stretch.
Friday: Water Sports

Our final day at St. Nicholas Park was a splash! Partners took turns rolling a die, completing an exercise (diving decline push-ups anyone?), and choreographing a synchronized swimming routine (the results were impressively elegant). And if that wasn’t enough, we added a grassroots slip’n’slide to the mix! A closing ceremony for our medalists who attended 3, 4, and 5 days wrapped up the week.
Saturday: Global Climbing Day Social with Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge

We climbed, we bouldered, we hyped each other the heck up! It felt amazing to celebrate at our first social event since March 2020, and to get to know everyone a bit better outside the early morning hours.
More than all that though, this week was a special opportunity to watch members step up to meet the challenges of the workouts, of expanding their comfort zones in different ways, and of choosing to #justshowup and contribute something of themselves to their community.
We’re excited for all of the growth, cheers, high-fives, bouts of silliness and shouts of encouragement to come.
Thank you for being here,
Emily, Aki & Dana
