First, big ol’ hat tip to NPDEN for the name inspiration. We wracked our brains to find something as catchy and all encompassing as this, but alas, you all hit the nail on the head.
Below are the ins, outs, and in-betweens of our revamped and revitalized NPMSP group to grow, learn, and be open together so that we as a community can meaningful engage in our broader communities. We hope you decide to join us!
Group Mission: To learn about the communities we live in, the neighbors who surround us, and the land we move on through conversation around history, reality, and by taking action. To grow as a community that can be a part of creating change and investing in our broader communities.
NP Community Agreements and this community:
- Come as you are — bring your honest and full self and be open to learning and growing.
- Elevate, motivate, support others — we only meaningfully move forward together and this understanding must be present in all our interactions.
- Respect individual boundaries, our identities, our neighbors, our environment — be open and vulnerable and recognize that others are as well. Through respect we create a brave space where everyone feels welcome to participate.
- Grow community — within this group, in the broader NPMSP community, and in all the communities we occupy each day.
- Lead together — this is our collective community and it takes all of us investing and contributing.
- Call in — assume best intentions and challenge people to learn and grow through supportive conversation.
Structure: At the beginning of each month a group member will select a topic that will be delved into in different ways for three weeks and then a meeting during the fourth week to discuss and reflect.
The member will select the topic and weekly “assignments” that will be posted in the Facebook group at the beginning of each week that correspond with that week’s focus (listed below). These assignments can be from a variety of mediums, but must be accessible to all without associated costs. Mid-week each week we will prompt people to share their thoughts and/or reflections on that week’s assignment on the Facebook page and encourage them to use the page as a discussion board.
At the beginning of each month, the monthly topic, week one’s “assignment”, and the NPMSPLearns Facebook group will be shared on the main NPMSP Facebook page to continually engage and encourage new members to join.
Weekly focuses:
Week one: “Then” — The history and origins of this topic.
Week two: “Now” — How does this topic show up in life today?
Week three: “Do” — A physical action step each person can take to learn more about and engage in this topic.
Week four: “Meet” — The group meets (virtually or in-person depending on COVID safety regulations) to discuss what they’ve learned over the past three weeks and their reflections.
The topic leader will structure the meeting and discussion in whatever format feels right for them and the topic at hand.
