How we respond(Ottawa)

So, September… what does this usually bring? Beautiful fall days, brisk mornings, changing colours, hikes, warm teas, pumpkins! But also, back to school, end of summer transition, starting to be shorter days. It’s not the dark season yet, but it’s upon us, a time when we know we will need each other even more. And perhaps this season, more than ever, we are sitting in some ongoing uncertainties. With return to school, runny noses and days home from work and school to go wait in COVID testing lineups… there is a lot up in the air. We don’t want to be yet another sharer of negative news (though important to be aware of what’s going on), a lot of these pieces are out of our hands. We can only choose how we respond, and who we surround ourselves with (speak to, text, zoom with), which can influence our attitude around things.

We want to shed light on what we CAN do around this community. Though it’s one day, we can rely on the consistency of showing up on Wednesdays. We will still be there with a smile, at 6:29am (sometimes with a technical glitch), but a smile nonetheless. A group of people here for you. It may be someone’s first time, or 25th time on zoom, or first November project workout all together! Maybe some good can come from giving some of the good away to others. Can you think of anyone who needs this in another city? Maybe that family member or friend you always share these workouts with? Well now geography is no longer a barrier, perhaps some time zones. So know where you can go for some good, and that those individuals are there throughout the week too. Know you’re not alone in the uncertainty.

Thank you for sharing your best rock, paper, scissor battles with us over zoom this morning. There might be something entertaining, slightly confusing, utterly hilarious to all of us talking over each other on zoom while holding up a rock, paper or scissor symbol with our hands or not knowing who won. The shout outs at the end of the movements might have been the best or the frequent “I’m a star!”.

Stay tuned for conversation regarding calling creative ideas for ways to connect.

Here’s to bringing soles together,

Lauren and Liz
