Announcements below. Today’s guest blog brought to you by Noli, a longtime member of the DC tribe:
November Project (and) Family.
November Project (is) Family.
I found my tribe (#NP_DC) three years ago in February, and today—May 3, 2017—is hands down the day I have most felt the NP family.
Today, work travel had me missing this morning’s workout. But I wore green to the workout I did, in honor of a man I never met, because he was an NP member, making him family.
Today, in Buffalo, my sister decided to #JustShowUp to the debut of their pledge tribe (@rtt_716). I do not know who was more excited…me, or her. I know what November Project means to me. And I wanted that for her.
I wanted her to have all that November Project is: The obvious hashtags: the free fitness, the hips-in-hugs. The quick smile, a couple burpees, a new friend, a PR. It’s a constant for me, even though I am out of town as much as I am here. As I travel for work, I love the instant community I have found in cities across the country: Phoenix, San Diego, New Orleans, Dallas, Chicago, and more.

Happiness is best when shared, and November Project is a constant happy place for me. I have brought my sister, my mom, and my aunts to #NP_DC. I introduced my best friend (Mary!) and husband (Allan!) to November Project, and Allan and I sandwiched our wedding weekend with both the Friday and Monday workouts, and brought his cousins. My niece has grassroots gear and I have recruited friends who live in cities across the country to join their tribes/pledge groups. I work with public school superintendents and bring them to workouts when our meetings are in sister cities. This shit is good, this shit is free, and those educators have raved about the sense of community, the quick and overwhelming sense of ‘welcome’ they feel. The draw of NP is so simple and clear, you just ‘get’ it when you show up. You want to take the happiness and electricity of your workout and share it with those you love.
As I wrote in an IG post to commemorate three years with #NP_DC: I didn’t do big crowds without the comfort of at least one person I knew, until #NP_DC. I didn’t regularly explore my city before sunrise, until #NP_DC. I didn’t have a built-in free fitness community during work travel, until #NP_DC. I found my tribe.
And today, while I rode in a car wearing my green shirt to commemorate a family member I’ve never met, I had a call from my sister, who found her tribe. “It was just like your NP. It was friendly and kind and fun and a little bit weird, and the fast people went fast, and the slow people went slow, and it was just awesome.”
