Winter PRs, feeling like stars

Last week was November Project’s 3rd birthday, which was super cool, but it was also NP Minneapolis’s first November.  November has turned out to be about as snowy and icy as co-leader and MSP virgin Ian has ever experienced on the East Coast.  Last January, NP Minneapolis was born in the crucible of winter.  Was this a ridiculous time to start a tribe?  Probably, but it also says something about how Minneapolitans deal with the winter.  Today, the answer was obvious- we fucking love it.  Tough we are, but more than that we just want to play in the snow.

Today was PR day.  30 minutes of non-stop Mississippi bluff goodness.  Today’s greeting amounted to “hello-hug-let’s run!”  It was cold as bejeebus, and we did most of our talking, yelling, and hugging while running to the hill.  Running hugs on ice are ALWAYS a good idea.  Only 3 people fell down before we started.  Henry led the charge.

The warmup today consisted of 20 NP-sanctioned jumping jacks, and then 20 “I’m a Star” jumping jacks.  If you don’t feel like a star, you need to come to NP, find Nate 2, and ask him to show you how.  You’ll feel wonderful.

Does your Tribe have a Polar Bear hat? It should.

30 minutes of hills, on ice, watching the sun come up.  A frozen November day is the best day to start your PR season- we will chase this all winter, through snow, sleet, and Yetis, and we will get stronger and faster for it.  At some point McSupple did a back flip, power-high-fived Liz, and then bestowed upon her the Mighty Lumberjack Award.

Bodies were steaming by the end.  Hugs were warm and sweaty, and we watched the sunrise as we finished at the Memorial.  What I saw today was the joy and heart that will carry us through the winter.  We are here for each other, we are here to get strong, and we are here because it is FUN TO RUN IN THE SNOW.  Dana, Harbinger of Positivity, pointed this out to us today when she handed of the Positivity Award to Holly, who has led her and so many others to the wonderful life of running.

And I quote: “If you can run 3 miles, you can run a half-marathon, or go to every November Project workout in 2014”

I swear, that’s what Dana said Holly said.

Fuck yeah.  Love the winter.

We love winter. This puppy loves Stu. Stuuuuuu!
